After considering a Diversion 180 for a while now, I've begun looking at the Dynasty 200. This will be my move to TIG and will augment my Miller 180 (which I really like) for light auto restoration work in a home garage. The main reason I started thinking about the Dynasty 200 is I've heard the torch is lighter and more controllable than the Diversion, and I like the idea of trying to "grow" into the more advanced features of the Dynasty someday. I guess I would need some kind of complete package. Do I need the water cooling or can I start with something like the Dynasty 200 DX Air-Cooled Package (Foot Pedal) 951174?

thanks for any feedback,
Gus

You can start with an air cooled torch (#9 or 17 torch) for now. Get a water cooled torch later. Don' t have to buy a kit from Miller. Get a #20 water cooled torch and water cooler.

Personally, I prefer the water cooled torch. tungsten cools much faster than air cooled when you need to remove to re-sharpen.

Dynasty 200DX is a great welder. If you do buy one, be sure to get one with the "blue lightning" feature.

Good thread on Dynasty setup..

Thanks fj40charles - I was hoping to hear from you on this. :)

You can run any torch you want, but you have to keep in mind its capacity. I use a WP17 series air cooled torch at 200 A for short periods on aluminum with no problems, but you can't weld all day with it. The other things to consider are if you are going to weld off the bench, in tight spaces and out of position. If so, then a flex head, shorty cap and a thumb switch may be nice to have. Using a foot pedal under the truck is a PITA.
