i have a 72 distributor with vacuum retard. my vacuum line goes from the dist. to the manifold. there was some kind of valve that the line plugged into. but i was told to replace it with just a basic brass fitting.

does my vacuum line need some kind of one way valve in the line? or can i just run a straight line to manifold to distributor. im not 100% sure how the vacuum works in the distributor.

There may have been a check valve in the stock line (there was in my 1980 vacuum advance distributor vacuum line), but according to the official mud de-smog schematic blessed by de-smog czar Jim C., none is needed and you can run a new line straight to the base of the carb. That's what I did and mine runs great.
