Hello everyone

I'm stuck between the two. Pretty similar overall, I know. They look good and are both low profile. One of my concerns is covering up the sunroof. In one of the Prinsu threads someone removed the bar over the sunroof. Possible (or even advisable) for the Dissent rack? Is that a load bearing bar? Hard to tell from pictures, but looks like it would be the second bar from the front. Anyone with a sunroof have a clear picture showing which bar obstructs the sunroof? I searched but couldn't find much.

Leaning towards the Dissent rack. Opinions either way?

Thank you in advance.

I have the Dissent and the rack does not get in the way of the sunroof at all. You don’t need to remove any bars for the sunroof to operate.

Thanks for the reply. But you wouldn't be able to get out of the sunroof correct? For emergency situations.

I just bought and installed the Prinsu rack for my 99 LX470. I dont have a pic handy but the second bar does go right in the middle of the sunroof. Because they have the cut outs that run all the way down the side of the rack you can put the bars anywhere you choose. (seems like Dessents are based on the position of the roof top bolts) They do have small cuts for where they recomend bars be placed but I think its more about uniformity. If I remember correctly their installation video even states that moving them for what you need is ok. I debated removing that bar simply for cosmetic reasons (you see it when you open the sun shade). But left it, knowing my luck i would throw something up on the rack and it would go right into the sunroof. Also, the "second bar" is actually the third bar in its construction. The first bar is holding the wind screen in place so I believe even with out it the rack would still be rigid.

Dissent. Ben has supported us LandCruiser 100 owners for a long time and builds fantastic products. The welds on his bumpers are some of the best I've ever seen. Prinsu just feels like Gobi to me.....kinda like Specialized and Giant are in the mountain bike world. They were super late getting into supporting the 100 series whereas Ben has been here supporting us for years.

If choosing between the two- definitely Dissent. High quality materials & craftsmanship, very consistent and generous supporter of developing products for 100 series, unique well thought out & functional design.

Yeah Dissent is a great company. @benc knows what he’s doing and all their products are designed with a lot of thought and precision. Like-OEM fitment on all the parts I’ve ever bought from Dissent.

you can't, unless you remove the bar or cut.

I’ve heard this concern come up frequently in roof rack threads but have never been able to imagine where it’s necessary. Stalled out in a 5’ water crossing? Roll down a mountain and all five doors are jammed? Maybe I’m naive...

might just be a case of better to have and not need like many things we worry about.

Can't get out thru my sunroof cause my RTT is blocking it.

That's exactly how I feel. I wonder how many situations where people were injured/killed could have been avoided if there was a sunroof escape. My guess is that's extremely unlikely, but nice to have the option.

So much support for Dissent! I think I'm sold on the rack! Hope they have some ready to ship.

Thanks everyone.

You wont be disappointed with Dissent products! @benc stands by his product 150% (maybe more than that). Heres the support first hand. I broke a couple bolts doing some "DIY" work and placed M8 bolts where 5/16 bots were suppose to go in the skid plates. Called up Ben and he said. "Bring it over, we'll take care of you". After some chuckles about my mistake, we were on our way home with some spare hardware. Just in case I GOOFED again!

I have a dissent rack it’s phenomenal. I have not once ever worried about not being to escape out of the sunroof. I would be fascinated to see if anyone has ever experienced a situation where they couldn’t exit doors or windows but could exit a sunroof. eems a little ridiculous honestly.

This is the only vehicle I’ve ever owned with a sunroof. I still open my sunroof all the time FWIW.
