I started with the desire to get the clutch MC and the clutch booster out so I can get them rebuilt. Took the steering column out because its in the way and I want to clean up rusty u-joints and replace spiders.

There is no snap ring or spring retainer as the manual shows.

I can't see how the "intermediate shaft #1" comes apart from the bearing housing.
Anybody done this?

I don't think I'll be able to get a complete used shaft here in Virginia.

Closest driveline shop seems to be 90 minutes away.
I could take it a machine shop I use... It would cost less if I can at least get the shaft free.

Are the snap rings on the inside, like the driveline UJs?

It is not the ujoints that are the problem. (They are staked in place, by the way)

I want to get the shaft and attached UJ's separated from the bell-shaped, flanged bearing block/holder; the thing with the 2 holes shown in the photo above.

The way to separate the bearing housing is to put the shaft in a soft-jaw vise and hit the bearing housing with a plastic-faced hammer.
After separation a snap ring will be revealed to get the weird nylon covered bearing out of its housing.
