Here is a couple pictures from a friend/customer of mine...He has a 96 Land Rover Discovery.....He said some old lady pulled out on him when he was goin 40mph he slammed on the brakes then heard a loud bang, followed by the pedal sinking to the floor and what he descibed as a football size piece of metal(caliper) and other smaller pieces flying out from under the truck.....he didnt hit anybody, got the truck stopped and had it towed into my shop......here is what i found when i pulled the wheel...pic 1 no rotor,no caliper,no brake line.......pic 2 here is what remains....to the left is all there was of a rotor.....and the right shows the 2 dog ears from the caliper where it bolted to the hub......all this on top of the fact that his steering box leaks BAD,the power windows dont work and it wont pass emissions test and it only has 88,000 miles......WHAT A PIECE OF $h!t !!!!!!!

Wholy chit!
I had a GF who had a heep Cherokee back in the late 90's and she asked me to look at her brakes because the car was pulling to the right when she hit the brakes. What I found was that the "hat" had rusted so bad that the rotor separated from the hat, so when she hit the brakes the rotor stopped bu the wheel just kept going. The truck was also serviced "regularly" by her dad's heep dealership.
The icing on the cake was a service tech at another dealership (she was away from home at college) said they didn't warranty brakes. Well I got the manager over to discuss the issue, showed him the problem and explained that if this had happened to the driver side rotor Chrysler would be looking at a lawsuit/wrongful death suit.
Well, they fixed it at no charge.
