Looking for ideas and haven't been able to find any pics or examples. I have a FJ40 SOA on 37's that is a long way from the ground. My wife is disabled and is having a very hard time getting in and out of the truck. I have the materials and equipment to fab up just about anything but need ideas. Anyone have any kind of retractable/removable step or ladder on the side of their crawler or built into the slider so folks can get in and out?? Please post any pics if you have seen anything like this.

You could probably modify an amp step kit from a 2 door Jeep. Wire them to a switch that’s easily accessed from the door opening

I've definitely considered that, but I just can't figure out a way to tuck them behind and above the slider it doesn't get ripped off by a rock.

Try an electric caravan or RV step that opens with a switch, like the interior light one. They can be had with either one or two steps and are pretty compact. Also available as manual.

IMO the aluminum ladder that you can easily stow. Build some sort of clip or whatever so it can lock into the slider and be easily pulled up and stowed once in vehicle.

I modified an AMP from a two door Jeep. I think it works great and tucks up relatively well. Not for hard-core wheeling, but it might work for you

My FJ45 is SOA with 2" OME springs and sits on 37" BFG KM2 tires (obviously not shown in the video).

Hey Jack, did you put one on the driver's side too ;)

(it was too easy...)

Hey, the old fart shown in the video needs help on both sides of the street.

On the serious side, another option is to just weld a loop of chain that hangs down from the frame or slider. It is pretty hard to tear one off on rocks, but it may not be sufficiently stable for your wife. You might also think creatively about a mechanism that folds down from the inside of the door when it is opened.

I spy a red driver front fender of an old farm truck rock crawler in one of the pmc pics from the hammers, was it you by chance ?
