I have thought about this for a few years now and I think it is time to try to take this to the next stage.

I would like to find people that are interested in helping plan a route. I'm thinking about New England, dirt roads, scenic roads, exploring interesting places, maybe camping combined with some motels/hotels. I'm thinking a 10 day-2 week trip, maybe with people able to jump in and out along the way. The whole trip COULD be longer or shorter... Lots of options to discuss... and this doesn't have to be a one-off thing... I'm sure there are enough places to explore and roads to drive for this to become an annual event (or maybe twice a year: a spring and fall version...?)

I'd like to generally avoid the typical tourist spots. Looking for the "real" New England. Lots of stopping to take in local culture, take photos or just enjoy a cup of coffee and slice of pie - you get the idea.

No need to cover 1200 miles, no rushing, no interstate highways, as much dirt as possible. No "wheeling" but a little 4wd here and there would be cool.

Anyway... if this sounds like something you would like to talk about chime in here and we'll go from there...

Yes! This sounds awesome, and I'd love to kick some ideas around. I live in Franklin County, MA, and there are tons of awesome old roads / trails out here, on both sides of the CT River, that would give you a great feel for the area, and link you up to some other stuff in NH / VT. Keep me posted! My email is steve@belllapcoaching.com if you need to get in touch off thread.

New England Forest Rally seems to find some cool roads.
I know those roads very well (I competed on them for 8 years) and they are private; some open for public use but many are closed for public use.

If you are looking for options and idea for long range across New England trip planning, join Northeast Overland's site and lurk around there for a while. Lots of good trip reports there for what you are looking to do.

Thanks... yeah, I have been a member there for a while... lots of good info to be sure. I'd like to do the North Maine Woods...

To start I'd love to do a trip in the Western Mass/VT/NY area. I'd love to find something in Adirondack Park.

i know of some cool dirt roads/class 4's if this makes its way up to northern VT
