I had an opportunity to check some measurments today. THree 80 series cruisers with three diffrent set-ups. I used a magnetic dial-protractor to measure axle and driveshaft measurements. I used a tape measure to measure heights. Each rig was parked in the exact same position in the driveway. Here's the skinny:

First rig is a completely stock 97' collectors edition. Stock tires, stock suspension with 85,000 miles. Nothing has been touched on this rig. I have driven it and it is smooth as silk, no driveline grrrrr, no wandering on the road.

top of axle: 9degrees
bottom of axle: 7 degrees
driveshaft: 0 degrees (i guess that explains the smooth no grrrr)

Heights:
RF 18 1/8" LF 18 3/8"
RR 18 1/2" LR 18 1/2"

Second rig is a 95 that has been lifted with heavy springs all around, OME cc bushings in and the front axle has been rebuilt. Stock front bumper, jump seats are in rear. No noticable play in the wheel or trunion bearings. 295 goodyear MTRs. Also has a stock front driveshaft in. This rig wanders all over the road but does not have the driveline grrrrr

Top of axle: 11degrees
bottom of axle: 10 degrees
driveshaft: 5 degrees

Heights:
RF 21 5/8" LF 21 1/2"
RR 22 6/8" LR 22 5/8"

Third rig is mine. It's a 95 that has been lifted with medium springs, Mr. gasket 1" spacers in front, stock bushings in leading arms with slee castor plates, ARB bull bar with no winch. rear jump seats are out. 33" truxus tires. My truck tracks great but does have a noticable driveline grrrrrr

top of axle: 5degrees
bottom of axle: 4 degrees
driveshaft: 9 degrees

heights:

RF 21 5/8" LF 21 1/8
RR 23" LR 22 1/2"

I figured this data may help a little in solving lifts and driveline grrrr. I do plan on having my rig and the other 95 with heavy lift on a alignment rack within the next two weeks. I'll post those measurements when i get them.

are the heights centre hub to flare or something else??

also how are you measuring each angle?

ah! good job! nice quantitative post.

the stock at 18.5" in the front is very low. Normal is 20" I believe. what's with that?

Mine is 21.5" in front IIRC with no caster correction and no grrr at all.... Maybe a tad twitchy but hard to tell if that's not just my imagination.

"I used a magnetic dial-protractor to measure axle and driveshaft measurements. I used a tape measure to measure heights."

I measured from the lip of the center hubcap of hub to flare edge. I'll take a pic tomorrow. I just figured it would be very easy to make each measurement equal since the tape measure end could catch right on the lip.

ok so you need to tack on the distance from the lip to hub centre to get an "MLSM"* reading. not sure if all 80 centre caps logos are the same.

for the angle measurements I'm afraid I am still not getting it. when you say the driveshaft is zero degrees are you saying relative to the pinion flange? What is the reference point for the axle measurements? This is good data so I just want to be sure I can use it :D

*mud lift standard measurement"

yup, the numbers I quoted and most of the ones you'll see here are from the center of the hub, not the lip...

here is where i measured from.
