I had a problem with a leakage in my cylinder head gasket of the 2H-engine of my 1982 HJ60.

I replaced it with a new OEM cylinder head gasket, but seemingly the holes of the gaskets align with the cylinder head, but not with the cylinder block.

Is it possible that there are different cylinder head gaskets for different manufacturing years?

Or did the former owner place a different cylinder head on my block and tightened it together very well? This option seems weird to me, because I worked perfectly fine for 2 years.

yes they are .. I know there are 2 versions ( that I'm aware of ) for the early 2H and late one .. the main difference it's in the cylinder sleeve version vs the non sleeved version .. then of course cylinder diameter hole in the gasket ..

Just checked toyodiy:
Early has part number 11115-68010.
Late has part number 11115-68020.

Early head 11101-69015
Late head 11101-68011

Maybe you have a late head, on an early block?

That could well be the case, otherwise I don't understand it.

In that case I need to find an "old type" cylinder head...

I will try figure it out today and will let you know.

For now I also figured out that my exhaust manifold is a 2-piece and for as far as I know, the late cylinder head had a 2-piece manifold and the early head a 1 piece.

Seemingly this is getting to an interesting answer...

Figured it out: Seemingly it is normal that not all the holes follow through the cylinder head gasket onwards to the block or head respectively.

If I look in the Manual the "red" hole in the cylinder head (LEFT) goes through the gasket, but doesn't follow through in the cylinder block.

The same counts for the "red" hole in the cylinder block (RIGHT). It goes through the gasket, but not onwards through the cylinder head.

If you would fold the attached picture together the "red" hole in the cylinder block (LEFT) will fall on the spot of the blue triangle in the head (where there is no hole). The other way around the same thing.

I checked it with the car mechanic on another 2H-engine he had in the shop and it was the same case. So there is nothing wrong with my engine or gasket.

BUT why is it made like that?? I am really puzzled...

in my case was the opposite .. 2 piece exhaust manifold for late and one piece for early models ..
