Difference Between FJ80 and FZJ80? (1 Viewer)

Ok, yes, I'm a noob. I admit it. And don't flame me, please, because I've searched and read the FAQ, but I still can't find a concise thread or group that can simply tell me the difference between a FJ80 and a FZJ80. I know about the motors being different, and supposedly the FZJ has the better motor, but I can't find out what the different motors are, and what the various advantages/disadvantages are of each motor, model, year, etc... I could buy a Haynes manual, yes, but I am cheap.... I know because my girlfriend frequently tells me so.

Thus, I am appealing to the resident LC gurus to enlighten me, or post links that might enlighten me.

The main difference is the engine.

FJ80's have the 3FE 4.0 li. Inline 6
FZJ80's have the 1FZ-FE 4.5li. Inline 6

FZJs have a bigger (4.5L engine) with a lot of electronic controls, later ones had different transmissions, some have the optional diff lockers, yada, yada.

Actually beyond the same body style, there isn't a whole lot similar between them, especially comparing with the post '95 trucks.

15" wheels
rear drums
no VC in the center diff
no ABS
SF rear axle

FZJ80:
1FZ-FE engine
16" wheels (alloys are different design than FJ80 alloys)
Most have 4 wheel disk brakes & ABS (a few 93's with rear drums)
FF rear axle
Available F&R diff lock option
Different tranny
VC center diff

You do not have an original US model. Also, the 80 series was not sold in the US in 1990.

My apologies to those with non-US vehicles. Sometimes we US guys forget this is an international forum and we have 'Mud members with variants of the 80 for foreign markets.

I should have qualified the above to indicate those are only differences in the 80s that were sold in the US.
