New to the landcruiser scene. Had a built fourrunner but was recently stolen and I am starting over with a 84 fj60. Plan on moving the front axle forward 3-4 inch's and doing a shackle reversal. So making new spring hangers is no big deal. Just seeing if anyone has used other springs that worked good. Looking to run 36's now but want room for 39's later and dont want to have to lift it more then.
Thanks

Any particular reason to do a shackle reversal? I've seen it done, mostly to gain an extra inch of height on the front, but there's really no need to do it for the common reason most Cruiserheads do a SR on an old FJ40, which is helping to correct the wandering steering. Just curious....

My SOA FJ62 sits on de-arched heavy-duty OME springs.

Main reason is to get the shackle away from the front so it wont get hung up on stuff. To help with the ride. Is there a reason not to do it?

Are you modeling after something already been done ? Or just arbitrarily picked 3"-4" inches forward for the front axle ?

If you are planning on geometric mod's to the suspension, I would recommend being careful and checking around. Normal SOA's haven't been to bad(referencing the tech section) and retain bunches of stand geometry. SOA also preload the springs which can be very nice for handling characteristics.

Moving an axle 3"-4" inches forward ... WOW !!!

Note: If you are a semi or pro builder please excuse this post.

Cheers,
Cahil

P.S. My axle is moved forward ~ 1/2 - 3/4 inches and the world changed for handling.

Need to move it forward to run my 4x4labs highsteer arms I have lying around....they were bought intended to go on my fourrunner but didnt get them on it before it was stolen. Luke at 4x4labs said that the axle needs to go forward....3-4 is an estimate till I get it apart and get a better look at it. Not modeling after anyone's 60 just seeing what will work and wont. I know what worked on my fourrunner and if it will work on the 60 I'll do close to the same.

A SOA will fit 37s easy.... trim the fenders a tad and you'll fit 39's rather easy..You should just get hysteer and let it go at that...save yourself a mighty bit of trouble...

Already have the 4x4labs highsteer. need to get the axle forward a bit to make it work without oil pan issues.

Moving your axle forward may create all sorts of tire clearance issues unless you cut the front cross member. My 35's hit the front cross member...granted Im not soa...but i am running almost 6" of lift...

A shackle reversal is the pefect solution for this problem however...I'm actually doing one this weekend. Instead of the Axle moving forward when the springs compress, they will move back...perfect!

Lastly, I hope you live in an area where wheel base and turning radius are not an issue...cause out here in the NE, another 4 inches of wheelbase would kill a cruiza!

I ran into this problem with my HJ61 and oil pan clearance with the 4x4 labs steering....

I was considering flipping the springs, but I think a better option for me will be to modify the oil pan. This way I can weld in a bung for an oil line for a pre-luber and install an oil pan heater instead of the glue on pad I am using now.

It shouldn't be that difficult, I would think less work then the spring flip...

I moved my axle forward 3.5" with a SR and stock springs and no clearance issues. If i went forward anymore the 38.5 tire I run would hit the body mount in front and the steering gear box would have to be moved forward. My $.02.
