I was reading my original owners manual for my 1988 FJ62. I noticed on pages 93-95 it has the instructions and pictures of how to use the differential locks. Was this an option?, 'cus my 62 does not have these. Thanks.

Option? Yes. In the US? No. Cable locking differentials was an option, but not for the US.

Huh? I'm sure they would be on the tranny hump, right? There are no holes in the floor where they would have been. Could you tell me where they would be or what to look for. Thanks.

Nope. Don't have them. The truck was originally from California. There is a factory cup holder behind the hand-brake, attached to the center console. Brake, of course, is between drivers seat and console. Strange.

2mbb,
Thanks for the pic. The 4 holes on the console in your picture next to the diif-locks, that is where the cup holder is attached to. HHmmm

Here's a pic on a left hand drive, and the junk underneath it attaches to.

Im not sure why they are shown in the owners mannual but its a good thing since my HJ61 has manual lockers and now I know how to engage them.
When I bought my first 62 new from the dealer we asked about the lockers and was told they were not optional in North America.

Thanks guys. I looked underneath this morning. There is no linkage or holes or signs of holes in the floor boards where they would have been. This is slightly weird. Original carpet that is untouched in that area too. I was told my 62 came from California. How can I find out where it was sold from? Thanks.

Diff locks were never an option in the US market for any 6x (or 4x) series vehicle, only in Canada. The holes would look like this:

Thanks Bill. I pulled up the carpet and there are no holes. Must be from Canada or elswhere. Thanks for the help. I was hoping it was just disconnected or something, but I guess not.

It's a bad pic, but you can see no holes. I took it from the back seat lloking forward. Seat-belt is next to my hand.

I think you're confusing things a bit. No US 62 would have come with the holes. The only locker-related holes will be bolt holes under the vehicle on the tub cross-member below the front seats, though without captured nuts. The only other locker related item is a multi-pin connector which hangs loose down by tranny cooler lines on the passenger side of the engine bay. I put the holes in mine when I installed the lockers (which came from Japan). The diff lock section is in the manual because locker-equipped 62s were (rarely I think) available in Canada.

HTH,
Bill

Me too. Bastids making us jealous and such...

Don't be too jealous. The rest of the vehicle is a gap-toothed, pop-eyed, dented up New England rust bucket that makes me think I should get a tetanus shot every time I drive it. That said, it runs like a top and get me where I need to be.

Yeah but you gots diffy locks :hillbilly:

Sorry Bill. I got a little confused. Guess I'll be buying my brothers diffs. He has Atlas lockers on his old, but good, 62 diffs. See if this works.
