Thanks Dougal, yeah been leaking around there for a couple years now and haven't come across anything quite close enough to what I'm trying to achieve unfortunately.

The fact that there's almost no info on the combination I'm going for probably means it might not work out so well but from what I've learnt about the individual components, it seems like its still worth try. I just can't wait to have the county back on the road lol.

Screw you auto correct, just cos we're talking about land rovers doesn't mean you have to change everything that has "l**k" in it lol.

Did mean to say "lurking" though ;)

This is just a final 'thank you' and a goodbye.

You'll be pleased to know that at last I've solved the challenge of obtaining the required highway gearing on the 6WD Volvo.

The answer is to run an Aisin A465 six-speed double overdrive
automatic gearbox with a 0.63 top gear ... unfortunately the box is fully electronic.

However, (call me slow!) it has become clear the project would be too complicated, too costly given the vehicle's age, and lack the spare parts back-up to support a RTW tourer. A real shame given the Volvo's almost unstoppable capabilities.

I've finally bowed to commonsense and decided to build-up either an Isuzu NPS300 or a Canter FG. The knowledge base in Australia for modifying both those 4WD's is arguably the best
in the world, so hopefully lots of help is close by.

Again, a genuine 'thanks' to all who've given me their time and
expertise over recent months... much appreciated.

Hi Gus

So ironic.......all I want for Xmas is a diesel auto 306.

If you're interested, we just did an Allison 2500 up to 2010 FUSO FG 84 Canter at work . So that's the 4M50 electronic engine. Pretty sure it would be different up to an earlier FG 649 or 637 but the transfer case side would be the same. Either way, it's a lot of machining....... billet bell housing, new output shaft, flywheel adaptor, TC adaptor, modified sump and that's just the start. Performance/acceleration/climbing is insane though and 100kph cruise around 1800rpm. You would be really over capitalising on an old non-electronic Canter though.

The yanks got an auto model Canter around '05 and the current US canter is the new Duonic 6 speed but heavily electronically dependant. If you were serious, it would be almost easier to start with a 2wd auto jap truck and fit a divorced TC and front diff.

Have done 100's of Canter and NPS builds too and there have been a few RTW now......

Anyway I'm still on the hunt for a 306 OT TGB1314.....haha.

Regards John.

Interesting!! I have a 94 Chev K2500 with 6.5 TD and 4L80E tranny. I'm wondering if they could easily be retrofitted in place of the 4L80E. I'd love to have the double OD. Currently I get 15 to 15.5 MPG when I stay at, or below 2000 RPM (60 MPH) on summer diesel. I'd really enjoy being able to go 65 to 70 on the freeway and be at, or below, 2000 RPM.

Don
