I had my fuel setup so that the diesel small wasn't too bad, i've recently (yesterday) increased the fuel half a turn and raise boost pressure to 14.5 psi. Who ever follows me must get dizzy pretty fast, what can i do about this? I know that when i go wheel with friend they all want me in the back! I'm straigth pipe and i think i might have to get a cat? No black smoke....but small diesel bad, not super bad, but bad like unpleasant.

I have the same problem. Police read my truck plate and slow down after that just because of diesel smell. Car in back of me always maintain the size of 4 or 5 car between us. I think that all diesel landcruiser have this smell... mutch less if you run with less Diesel. I have a turbo with 2'' exaust and a muffler. I have less smoke then ever with a turbo... but it's always smell diesel. At idle I smell diesel... and myself smell diesel after a run.

I will turn the Fuel back to is original adjustment... reduce diesel smell.

I don't think you can do much about the aroma. You may route the pipe out the side so that it does not direct the exhaust back at the traffic but rather towards the ditch.

I know you can also get additives for sleds to make the exhaust smell better. I am not sure if they are compatible with diesel.

Drive it…sniff it…love it. This is old technology. On the other hand, unilke some of Toyoda's new vehicles, it doesn't have a computer that may try to kill you when you least expect it.

I'm having the same problem. I think there's an adjustment on fuel pump to make the air/fuel mixture less rich in fuel. mine really stinks, i can't drive with a window open, i get cramps after a 15 minutes drive. i will check and let you know.

The only adjustment on the pump for the fuel air mixture is what the OP played with. ;)

I did notice when I had a bad thermostat on my wife's rig that when I followed her I could smell diesel but I did not see any smoke. With the new thermostat in, the problem disappeared. My assumption was it was not getting up to proper temp for optimum combustion.

Something i did since this post is get a 30 deg exhaust pipe elbow. Now the exhaust is more toward the ground. And somehow the exhaust doesn't get caught in the vortex that would throw it back at me. I have no idea if it help for those that follow me tho.

10 percent SVO would definitely help with the followers. I've had anti diesel folks follow me on the trail and said they didn't notice any smell off my exhaust.

Stick 10% SVO in the tank?

Only benifits to running it man, lower EGT's smells better, runs quieter, lubricates injector pump... That little of a percentage you don't have to worry about injectors clogging or fouling because the diesel in the fuel cleans everything so well... put an oil wheel bearing in diesel and then think about how happy your injector pump is... There is a reason 3B's have pre cups to make sure a fuel like SVO is heated and atomized for combustion...

If I were running behind you I would throw a few litres in you tank without you knowing... lol j/k

I do switch over to a bit of high end 2 stroke oil in the winter, which depending on the oil can make it smell better too... I'm done with pump lubrication oils after the reviews I've read 2 stroke oil and SVO do a far batter job then anything else! Also are much much cheaper and more convenient for me to purchase...

Not trying to be a smart ass, but when I got my first diesel, I grew to love that diesel smell. I still have wonderful vivid memories of the early morning drive to work across town in Edmonton. Crisp winter air, diesel fumes, strong coffee... wow, that was a great time. Enjoy the aroma!

Hi Eric, could you elaborate on this please? Thanks!

Vegetable oil up to 15% or biodiesel up to 50% will improve combustion and significantly reduce the diesel exhaust smell that most people find objectionable. I've been doing this for years and there is no black smoke or strong diesel smell. This also shows with exhaust gas analysis, where the VO or BD additive reduces unburned hydrocarbons to 10ppm or less.

If your smelling it,your not burning it.Why not turn it back to where it was and increase it in 1/8th turns unitl you find the sweet spot.
Half a turn straight up is a fair bit.
