hi i have a newbe question
I have a HJ60 and it is in great running condition with only 265K km and recently I have experianced what i am hoping does not turn into a problem but while driving at highway speed 100-120kpm the i experiance what seems to be a fuel lag or lapse for only a quick second but during that second the truck shakes like when it first starts but the engine remains running - it is like the fuel line gets clogged and unclogged real fast

Now i have been running biofuel and regular #2 diesel as well and recently been using a fuel and oil additive that helps with fuel economy and emmisions and since I have been using it I seem to have better performance and feul economy -and i am wondering if the additive isnt just cleaning the system and blowing thru some deposits

Anyone experiance anything like this?
the additive is at www.h2oil.com if anyone wants to check it out
thanks

K

I'm learning that diesel's need air and clean fuel...and that's about it. Check your filter(s), and change them if you haven't recently. Stop using the fuel additive unless it's rated for biodiesel, totally different animal.

BTW, I wouldn't complain, 120 kilometers per minute is a pretty good clip ;)

There are other filters in the BJ fuel system that normally do not need looking at. They look like brass brushes. A buddy of mine had problems similar to what you are describing and he had what looked like feathers in those filters. You may want to see if there are similar filters/strainers in the HJ fuel system that might have some crud.

Where is this other filter ? Any pics... or reference page in the toyota manual ?

BioDiesel is a natural solvent and will clean the gunk from engine, hoses, etc and then the gunk may clog orifices and filters. You should change your filters and check your hoses that carry fuel. They should be upgraded to Viton or similar to avoid further corrosion. After this done once or twice you should have no further problems. Are you running B100 or a blend??

cheers

Apparently there are several. They are not shown/described in the shop manual. We found out from our local Toyota parts guy.

Just fixed a Cummins today that had the same problem you described.
All we did was change all the fuel filters and run a diesel conditioner as the prime for the
primary filter. Then a can to the tank, let it idle for about 30 min and the hesitation is
completely gone.
Seems we either got a bad tank of fuel or something got by everything else and stuck in
a nozzle.
