If you had a chance to swap in a diesel engine and a tranny in the 100, what would it be?

Keeping my wish realistic, cummins with Allison tranny

I think the 4.7 gas is too good of an engine to swap out.

1HD-FTE with the 5-speed:meh:

I drove an HZJ-105 for about 6 months and was great, the 1HZ was fine in that truck but the turbo would just pep it up a bit:grinpimp:

Cummins turbo diesel (6 cyl)) they put int he Dodge 2500 with Allison or American rear end they also use in the Dodge 2500. Easy to get parts...near bullet proof...and great performance for HP and mostly Torgue.....and mate that with a 5spd or 6spd auto tranny.

I want to get a 60 and do this conversion. real, real bad.

The Cummins inline 6 cylinder (ISB) 5.9 was used on dodge trucks from 2003 thru 2007.5 and is a beast of an engine. It was mated with 2 manuals (NV 5600 and Getrag G56) and 2 auto trannys (47RE and 48 RE) during that time pariod of the "3rd generation" dodge manufacturing years. Both autos are junk and Ive been down that road. To get them built with billet input shafts, output shafts, triple disk torque converter, and other parts is easily a 5k job to do it right with prices approaching 8k for a Goerend or Suncoast fully built tranny.

Those engines are super dooper heavy as are the trannys. I think for a LC the 4bt (same block with 4 holes instead of 6) may be a better choice but gosh amighty thats gonna be a costly conversion. Me , Im stickin with what the chinese kid in the math class came up with.:steer:

There are a ton of older 6bt's to be found. The 190hp version that was in things like school buses and such. They aren't any more expensive than a SBC would be. Heavier... probably... more awesome? Definitely.

How many MPG do you expect from a diesel engine in your 100?
the old TB's and Cummings are very reliable, but i am not sure that you can obtain more than 18 MPG in a LC100 with them.

Those are awesome threads. One thing about the older (1998.5 and older 12 valve 5.9) engines is that they are all mechanical. i.e. there is no computer to malfunction. In fact the only thing the battery is used for is to turn the starter so you dont have to worry about getting the correct flash on the ECM and all that. You just point it in the close to right direction and press the skinny pedal.

I see no real gain by putting one in a 100s it has a great engine. but I do see a huge gain in the 80s. I would love to drive an 80 with the 100s / tundra V8 and 5 speed.

1HD-FTE with the 5-speed. Anything else just would not be right.

go read the diesel section of the forums, there are lots of fun reads about diesel conversions, although not so much into a 100.

Cost would depend on which engine you want, availability, and then if you'll DIY or pay for labor.

I suspect you could spend upwards of $15-20k, or even more, for a top notch turn key conversion.

oh, and SOR has a 1HDT TURBO DIESEL WITH 5SPEED TRANS & T TRANSFER for sale, only $11,300 + shipping

Thats the engine and transmission, but then again you gotta do the conversion, too.

damn expensive.
