My '89 Cruiser gets both horrible gas efficiency and performance. I have been hearing about people putting diesels in their Cruisers. I was wondering if there is a production FJ60 Diesel Cruiser or if they are fabricating their Cruisers to fit the engines. If they are fabricating to make the engines fit what else is entailed. New tranny? Driveshafts? Axles? Ect. I would just like to know more about what is involved in putting in a diesel engine and what is the engine of choice. Thanks in advance!

theres diesel cruisers. not in the us but you can get them from canada and mexico. check in the international tech section for all the info you would like

Brett is 1/2 right. There are diesel 'Cruisers (like my '82 BJ60) and you can get them in Canada but NOT in Mexico. If you use the "H" series of Toyota diesels it will mate to your current tranny leaving you only with wiring changes.

There are a lot of diesel options for cruisers. Toyota, Hino, GM, Cummins, etc. Do a search using "diesel" for all forums, and read to your heart's content. Make sure to have a 6 pack nearby 'cause it'll take awhile...
