I'm positive this will draw some guffaws, but today was huge for me. I did a 33-mile ride on my "commuter" bike, the Kona Dr. Dew. It's a pig (29? lbs), but I have it perfectly dialed in now; and after going with a new rear tire (Teravail Washburn 650b x47mm tubeless at 34psi, formerly a WTB was on) the bike rolls so, so well and much easier.

Why was this huge? I tend to work far too hard, usually tap out sooner, and sweat my ass off. None of that today. Longest ride on this bike as well!

I managed to take one picture, only because I was enjoying myself, smiling, just admiring the scenery and the clear Carolina blue sky.

Congrats! Keep at it and that will eventually be an “easy” ride. Heck I bet it would already be a cake walk for you if you were on a lighter bike.

Update from news coverage:

I think we know who it is, but not officially released. Updates on the others including:
  • 4 broken ribs, 4 fractures in pelvis, compound/open fracture to hand,
  • Broken right arm, broken bones in hand, broken femur (rod going in), broken bone in spine (not central bone) in a side bone, broken pelvis
  • Stitches in elbow, bark off a few places, can't put weight on one leg
No idea on the cause or the driver, but I think it will all come out in the wash.
So an update on this - the lad who did his arm, hand, femur, bone in back and pelvis was out riding again with the club on Tuesday and Thursday this week....

Tuesday's 30km was one of the fastest for a while (helped by 8 of us riding, and 3 of us are 100kg+ so on the downhills we fair pull the group along when rolling turns!) and he did a belter of a job on that ride... even more so that he's not using his big ring and just spinning (partly due to injury, partly due to in his age group they aren't allowed to run big ring).

Today's ride was more social (smaller group) and so he chatted a bit about his recovery with the others, and he's quite happy out on the road again - I was riding on the inside of him when we set off, and I checked he was happy being on the outside as the cars passed him and that wasn't a drama.

Thank you! This ride was very easy, really surprised myself that I kept it that way for once. I recently bought another bike (All-City Space Horse, flat bar, 1x10) that is even easier to ride, still a bit heavy though. Since I'm not chasing PR's or racing or anything, and don't care about speed, hoping I'm all set and can keep my brain in check to just go out, do long easy rides and enjoy them.

haven’t ridden in a bit as life’s been too busy. i was in phoenix this weekend though and its got me dreaming about some more desert riding! i have a few bike vacations booked this summer so as this stage of my year winds down im looking forward to getting back on the saddle and get some cycling legs back!

Few miles today. Legs felt fantastic. Wet, gritty ride, but loads of fun.

Trying to get back. Used to do a little 20-30 miler to warm up and stretch the legs, and fun rides longer than that. It’s been years though.

So I’ve been doing 4-6 mile jaunts after work a few days every week. Went through the park tonight and grabbed a glamour shot at this old house the city uses for storage.

Nice Guerciotti! Used to ride with a buddy who owned one, back in 1986. Really was a great, underrated bike of the ‘80s-‘90s. I always wanted one.
Thanks! Yeah it’s been an awesome bike. They do seem pretty low key as a brand. I have been riding it for about 15 years. Fun on a double century to just putting around town. Definitely a forever bike for me. :)
