Didnt ride today, but ran a trail running race. 14 miles +4000' in 2:40. Heat got me a little but happy with the finish time.

Got home and enjoyed a nice cool shaded garage and started getting the bags mounted up on my Singlespeed for the Bones to Blue bikepacking race next weekend. 259 miles with 35k vert. Aiming for a 3 day finish but we'll see how it goes, it's pretty mega. Trying to keep the setup as light as possible, should be plenty of resupply and water along the route so that helps a lot.

Holy F. You’re like Superman!

Best of luck with that race!

Did the 14 miler this morning. Rode on 2 days rest, with a 76*F, muggy conditions.

Dang, spanked that puppy at the fastest pace of the season. New record or right on old record pace. Not bad for a nearly 64 year old git. 😃

My goal is to continue to ride MTB (sans motor) until age 70. Hopefully, I continue to stay healthy and strong.

We’ll see after that.

Thanks! Not entirely sure I'll be able to finish Bones to Blue, but going to give it a shot! The course goes less than a block past my house at one point, going to be really hard not to stop 🤣

Dropped out of the race at the end of day 1. Was just too chunky to ride this much singletrack on a rigid bike. Hands, wrists, and elbows took a beating, but the legs and body felt pretty good. Definitely learned a lot and will probably try again with some front suspension. Biggest day I've done on the singlespeed though!

Respect! On road bike and silky roads is one thing… but I don’t even want to imagine what you lived through!

Oooh! Tell me about the ride. You got that thing well kitted out!
Thanks! It's a Tumbleweed Prospector, 14spd internally geared Rohloff hub, Dynamo front hub, Ron's Fabio's chest upfront on a second stem so it can sit on the rack. 29x3 wheels/tires with Cushcore to run comfortably around 10psi on the dirt. Thudbuster seatpost with a brooks cambium saddle. All sorts of other goodies on there and I have an assortment of bags to throw on depending on the trip. Been an amazing bike for pretty much any bikepacking route you could throw at it. Spent two months living off it in the Cordillera Blanca in Peru, and countless trips to the desert in Utah, Nevada, Oregon, dozens of overnights in the northern Sierra in California.

Sweet ride! Thanks for sharing. How long have you had it and how many miles do you have on it?

Evening ride in Tehachapi. Getting hot enough to start thinking about the early morning headlight rides.

First full day on the new bike today. Solo effort pushing back up the hill sessioning different sections. I loved my old Phoenix but this thing is next level.

Maven brakes installed using Shimano fluid instead of Sram (who needs warranty anyway), much easier to bleed/massage, bite point is consistent. Shavens FTW.

I'm almost embarrassed to say but using ChatGPT to dial in the suspension settings was really good. I plugged in the settings, told it what I liked/disliked, and it told me what to change and why. Pretty cool for someone who doesn't really understand suspension tuning.

Wow I've never really seen a drivetrain like that! Pretty badass bike!

That patrol is pretty dang badass too!

It gets rid of a lot of pedal kickback, I was pretty impressed yesterday by how planted you feel on the pedals.

RMU make an almost identical 170mm bike & the new Specialized Demo has a similar system, but these things were awesome back in the day.

I was in Denver Friday for other things and met up with a friend to do his every-day ride -- just under 10 miles up and down Green Mountain in Lakewood. Super buff trails, exposed, and easy to access. I rode his wife's bike. It was too small, but that wasn't the real problem: we started at about 5700', peaked a little over 6800', but my lungs were calibrated to sea level, more or less, and I was gassed. I had to put a foot down and pant for 30 seconds or so on the fourth of the 5 pitches. Total humiliation. A storm rolled in just as we reached the top, so we raced it to the bottom and to the wicker chairs on my friend's front porch for an IPA in a nice refreshing rain.

On the way down we saw a brown bear with cub and some healthy looking elk bucks in velvet.

There have been a bunch of bears hanging around Apex Park just across the highway from Green Mountain. Seems like they're all over the first couple foothills right now. Pedal fast!

I did Perseverance again today. It's my favorite, and so convenient since the boardwalk access to the trail shown in one of the photos is right below our house. Apple watch says 1,051 ft. of elevation gain, 8 miles round trip and temperature of 48F. Up is about 1 hour, down is 1/2 hour for me.
