Just started getting this aweful intermittent noise.
Generally seems to happen when warmed up.
Only makes the noise when I’m on the throttle.
42k miles. No recent work done. Stock engine, transmission, gears, etc.
Basic Dobinson lift installed at 20k.
Shop that put the lift on ran through it and couldn’t find anything.
It wasn’t making the noise at that time, so they were shooting in the dark.
Steering wheel will shimmy when under power.

Resolution: Bad axle. Replaced under the Toyota certified warranty. They never mentioned my lift.

Maybe you have something wrapped around the axles / driveshaft. Have you had a chance to peak underneath?

I spent quite a while underneath. Don’t see anything visually. Shop had it on a lift and couldn’t see anything either.

Start looking around dust shields and brakes. Based on speed - would match tire rotational speed.

This. It sounds like a piece of gravel in the brake dust shield.

Doesn’t appear to be a rock in the brake dust shield that I can find. Would a rock in the dust shield only make noise under acceleration?

How about between calipers and rotors? It’s a rubbing noise of some kind. I highly doubt there is something mechanically wrong with your cruiser

Did it make this noise prior to the lift being installed, if not, did you hear this noise the day you picked it up from lift being installed ?

That is NOT a good noise !!

Yeah but it’s also not a noise exhibited by an internal failure. There is very clearly external metal on metal contact.

CV axle not in all the way?

Sorry missed that part.

Sounds pretty bad to me, like the wheels nuts are not properly on or the brake pads worn down.

What is a basic Dobinson lift? Just some spring spacers?

Front coils and struts.
Rear coils and shocks.
SPC upper control arms.

Just dropped it off at the dealership. I’ll post what they find.

Bummer, wonder how that failed? Lots of recent threads of issues with these 200's, so out of left field. Glad you figured it out, let us know what the dealer charges for the repair.

I wonder also. I bought it certified used. Has a powertrain warranty until 100k. Warranty guys off today. Dealer said it would be $1,100 out of pocket if they deny the claim.
