DS valve covers are covered in greasy filth like this, while the PS equivalents are squeaky clean. Do you all think that valve cover gaskets may be the issue here? It's so all over the place that I'm not sure where it may be coming from.

IMO camino70 has nailed it. To my eyes that's not what a valve cover gasket leak looks like - oil would be "wetter" and down lower, not up top. That and the PCV is located there under the foam dome (middle left on pics) on that valve cover. Could be the rubber grommet the PCV attaches to is not making a good seal with the valve itself and as the intake sucks the gases and oil up to be recycled and burnt, some escapes and winds up coating the top of the valve cover, which then picks up some dirt, and leads to the look you're finding. Check and see if the oil has a more wet appearance under the foam dome area - I think that would be the confirmation of the problem area.

Thanks guys! As camino mentioned, I think I should also look at the oil filler gasket as well.
