Hi,

I have an "new" LC 1999.
The driver side speakers, both the tweeter and the main one do not work.
All other speakers work fine (I have isolated them using fader and balance).

I have partially removed the door panel (I got stuck in trying to remove the door latch) and checked the status of the speakers.
Both are fine, all original and in very good conditions.

I have wiggled the speaker wires and I have also tried to wiggle the rubber cable housing from the car to the door, to see if there was any change (I was hoping it would be a contact of some sort), but nothing happened.

So, my suspicion is that there is something wrong with the amp.
The fact that both main speaker and tweeter do not work seem to support this theory.

Do you agree?
Any suggestion?

Is there an easy way to replace or bypass the original amp and substitute it with a new one?
I suspect this may be a job for some specialized shop...

Thanks for any comment.

You might try to remove and reinsert the wiring plugs on the amp. I'm not a big fan to where Toyota decided to install the amp (under the seat, in a depression surrounded by carpet). Could just be dirty contacts. If you do access the amp you could try a small speaker hooked directly to the amp output wiring - that way you would know if it was the amp or some other wiring/speaker issue.

On my '04 with the JBL sound system and nav, the door speaker and tweeter both come off the same output from the amp. The wires are purple and pink. Yours may be completely different. I would strongly suspect bad wire/insulation or connections before I suspected the amp. I liked the previous post by @LBridges to hook up a test speaker directly to the amp, if that's possible.

Any luck on this? My 05 had the drivers side rear low and distorted and now the driver front is the same way too. Just replaced them with new speakers but the rear was doing it prior to the new speakers.
