All that have Dexcool antifreeze in there motor, get it out ASAP.

This may of been talked about before but it made the news last week.
GM say Dexcool is eating gaskets. They say you need to change the Dexcool after a couple of years as it over time will brake down the gaskets.
It is said that all the detergents in Dexcool braks down the gaskes and is corrosive to aluminum.

Does ToyRed have a lot of detergent in it?
Could the gray crap that some have had be from the Red coolant braking down the gaskets?

Cdan has posted whats in ToyRed and Dexcool on another post..
Could Toy Red do the same thing over time?

I have the ORANGE CRAP in my rad. I just got 3 gal of the Red.I will change to Toyota Red next week.

Kurt,
Thanks for the information. Can you post a link?

We have been advising to use Toyota Red or another premium coolant and changing every year regardless of the manufacturers recommendation. It is worth a couple of hours and $30 each year to be sure your cooling system has fresh additives and has not been getting clogged with precipitates.

It was on the car show that is on XM Radio at 1pm centeral time.
I can't remember the name of the show or its web site.
I will listen to it when I go to MI today and post the web site.

I did a search of 'GM Dexcool gasket" and found lots of info on bad gaskets and alumimum.

This is where I heard the story about how Dexcool eats gaskets.
I heard it on the radio show, dont know if its on the web site.

I killed another drain plug on the aftermarket radiator.
Dam its tight where the drain plug is.
As the parts store was closed I just put a bolt with teflon tape, in the drain hole.
The aftermarket radiator uses a Ford drain plug. My OEM plug doesn't work.

Any problem with just using a bolt with teflon tape for the drain plug?
I would get a SS or brass bolt so it wouldn't rust.

What is the block drain plug made of?

It appears to be brass.
