I've been chasing a diagnostic gremlin in the new Tacoma almost as long as I've owned it. Finally, after some reassurance from a reputable Toyota guru, I gave in and bought two new O2 sensors. 200 miles later, CEL is back on with the EGR code again. Apparently we guessed wrong. Problem is that there are so many pieces to the EGR system that I have no easy way to troubleshoot. And to replace every piece would be over $1000.

So I'm looking for a reputable mechanic, with high-end scan tools, preferably one who's very familiar with Toyotas, that will be able to PROPERLY diagnose this issue and not just try to replace the first thing that the code would indicate - I already have the ability to do that myself. I have someone who's probably going to buy the truck in two weeks, so I'm scrambling to get it up to snuff before I sell it.

Anyone have any ideas or recommendations? The further north the better, but the quality of the work is much more important than location in this case.

Call Casey Jones at Lexus of Memphis. He is in parts dept and ask him who to call. He has a friend that is a master toyota mech that rebuilt his 80 years ago.

Thanks! That's just the kind of answer/person I was hoping for. I'll call tomorrow and see if he's around.

If you lived over here I got your guy (toyota mechanic)....I think some of the new Toyota stuff takes a proprietary scan tool to see into (ECM/PCM)...properly.
