Denco Turbo with a 3 inch exhaust?

So, my hunt for an HZJ73 is coming along, had a few prospects but passed on them. Yens s*** right now so I can hold off a bit till it comes back up until a truck is found. But I can't really bank on that.
Figured I could have a bit of money for the 73 instead of the 77 because the 77 would leave me broke. And honestly I only really need a 73 right now....

Anyways lets cut to the chase,

I am really wanting to Turbo the 1HZ as soon as I get it. Love my Dads 73 to bits but the thing is a bit of a smoking dog comparing to the 1hd-t. I'm young, I like a bit more pep.

Anyways the denco kit has an optional 2.5 inch exhaust. I really want to go 3 inch for a cooler pyro and just because its 3 inch.
Is it a pain in the ass to bring it to an exhaust shop and say I want a 3 inch dump pipe and 3 inch basically straight through with a flex joint and a big 3 inch resonator all in stainless. I am mainly worried about a fitting for the denco turbo.....

Is it do able without hastle.
What do you figure a stainless exhaust will run me?

Also for you turbo guys, Do you think it would be a bad thing to up the boost from 7-8psi to 10psi. I think if I really want more juice I would get the Water to Air kit but I will see how the turbo kit goes (fund dependant).

Ceramic coating the turbo and the manifold. Is that a fairly expensive thing to do? Would I really see a considerable drop in EGTs if I did this?
Where would I send this stuff to get coated?

Turbo recommendations depend on who is installing them and what your mechanical ability is. A kit can be installed by most people with some mechanical knowledge, but if you have never turned a wrench then it might be on the tough side. If you have done lots of mechanical related things then build your own kit and save a grand, then buy 3 inch SS mandrel bends and a couple of straight sections, then cut and weld them up and you'll get the exhaust you want.

2.5 is too small on the 1HZ with turbo in my opinion - especially with just bent pipe. I think my whole 3 inch system cost me about 5-600 by the time I was done (with aero turbine ex.) Ceramic coating should cost me in the neighborhood of about 400 but I won't know until I get the bill.

Turbo outlet flanges are easy to find now in just about every configuration, I am using V band connection for ease and the ability to make small adjustments.

I wouldn't even consider going less than 10psi. It's a pretty good starting point. At that level I wouldn't worry about an intercooler yet either.

Incidentally, I think I'm very close to the sustained cooling limit of my Denco liquid-air IC at 18psi. I need to figure out some way to CHEAPLY set up pre and post IC temp probes with in-cab gauge(s) so I can monitor things more accurately. Unfortunately, the 4x10" barrel is the biggest I can fit in its present location. I can probably swap out the relatively small rad they use but that's a bunch more messing around trying to find something that "fits". I'm feeling lazy and it's fishing season.....

I have the PWR barrel which is the same as your denco barrel, I am considering putting in a frozenboost water/air type - there is a large 12.5x12.5x4.5 that should fit in my truck - that would give me quite alot more cooling as compared to the PWR barrel. Maybe I will take some measurements first, but might not have time.

That is the one that I´m looking at. I take it that you like it. Additionally, did you go with one of the PWR prepackaged kits (barrel, rad and water pump) or did you put the setup together yourself? Probable hijack over

I put my own kit together, love the intercooler, might try to fit a bigger cooler though.

I ended up contacting denco and they said they can get me a 3 inch adapter for the dump so I can just weld my own on.

The thing about just buying a kit as Wayne and a few other people have said is that everything you need is there. You don't have to do a bunch of trips to the hardware store nickling and diming yourself everytime.

I would love to do an intercooler with the future install but I just don't think I will have the funds with everything I want to do.

You can easily fit a 3" exhaust on the Denco 1HZ turbo. The flange takes it perfectly. You will have to introduce a small bend into the inner fender to let the pipe have enough clearance.

I was going to install a 3" but went with 2.5" into the stock system - which I will change when I have some time to do. I don't think that a 3" will make a world of difference, but it probably will depend more on what you are going to do downstream of the first meter of pipe.

If you want to do this, just buy a mandrel U tube and cut it just to one side of the middle of the bend. Use that piece off the turbo outlet flange, use the other half to make up the rest of the front pipe to the first flange, then fabricate the rest if the pipe from there.

Without exhaust - has to do with shipping costs.
If you want an exhaust, I can get that too. I don't think they make one for the HZJ77 though.

scrapped the 77 at this point in my life. Down the road for sure when I have kids, but I'm almost 22 and I don't need that.
HZJ73 is what I am after
