Holy crap this thread is about me and my truck! yep i'm deff
more nervous about playing in water now!!! that front axel job was miserable and would not have been possible without CruiseOrlando's help! thanks carter!

I've never heard of the ballon trick on the breather ! any threads about that?

Transfer case leak is pissing me off. feels like i will never get around to putting this lift on !

My dads 2010 FJ seems to be sealed water tight . He sat in deeper water much longer than my truck with no ill effects so far

Tech session, 6/30

I realize this is double-booking against the Ocala date, but priorities demand...

I talked with Luis - we're going to have a little tech session up at his place on Sat 6/30 to fix one (maybe two?) transfer case leaks. The important one is on Justin's 80 - he's leaking like a stuck pig, so it's the most important to fix. The problem is a rear oil seal in the transfer case, which apparently requires pushing out the shaft with a press in order to get to the oil seal. Depending on how it goes with his, I might also do mine. My leak is minimal compared to his, however.

Water is a bitch on mechanical parts. On my last TACO and my last TJ, I checked differental fluids out after every 5K when I did my oil. Basically drain them and look for chocolate milk. No chocolate milk, just refill and FIDO. Chocolate milk, break the seal, clean, and service. Preventative maintenance is the key to longevity in the mud.

I must detest! There is no such thing as "just another dog", and certainly not right getting rid of a motorcycle (unless for a fster motorcycle), however trading for a nice Landcruiser might be forgiveable.

Bear in mind the main concern was to equalize pressure to help with water intrusion. Do a bit of reading to see if it a solution for you. Looking up difff breather bellows will give you lots to read about.

I'd promoted a tech session for the ham radio stuff on the 30th at Hard Rock. We didn't get a tremendous response, and then Justin (FloridaCruiser813) decided he wanted to blow out the rear oil seal on his transfer case. So I talked to Luis who graciously agreed to let us go up there on the 30th to fix the seal - apparently you have to press out the shaft, and I'm not sure if I have all the right tools. I'd rather be in good hands in case we get ourselves in a bind.

My transfer case ALSO has the same leak, but I'm only dropping 1-2 drops a week, not a 1/2 quart a day like Justin is. So if his goes well, I might also do mine.

Bret suggested we do a night tech session on Friday the 29th so we could go wheeling on the 30th, but since Justin works Friday, I don't think it'll work out.
