Delay In A/C Coming On

So, I am new to the 200, but have 2 100s. The A/C in this new LX570 doesn't start to blow for a good 30 seconds, leaving me to sweat when the car has been parked in the sun. Also, and only sometimes, when I start it I have to push the auto client button and even then the temperature setting resets to a default 75 degrees, when I normally keep it on 70. Any suggestions on this? Thank you,
 
use the search box, top right of the screen, type in recirculate door - or close to that, select search in this forum and you'll find all sorts of info to help you put checks in boxes until you identify the issue you are facing. but first try to leave your recirculate button engaged all the time. Second is the arm that activates the recirculate door is off or broken, meaning its pulling in outside air. not much else to go wrong that we, collectively, have figured out.

Cold air can’t just instantly blow from a hot car... as Nd no one likes getting blasted with hot air before it has a chance to be cooled.

Compression & decompression have to happen...and then that cooled decompressed refrigerant has to pump through & drastically cool down tubes that also start out at the hot ambient temp... Then the system moves hot ambient air past these and it has to be able to cool it enough to help. Toyota was nice enough to NOT blow hot air at you at high speeds until it has a chance to all of the above.

So ya...unless you start and run your AC before hoping getting in &...basic laws stay basic. ;)

Got it. It is just a significantly longer delay than in either 470.
 
Yeah, there shouldn't be much delay, even with the recirc door. At least no more than in your 100s. My 200 comes on just as quickly as my 100s do/did.

When it does blow cold is it as cold as it is in the 100? Does it blow at high volume or does it seem choked down?

Pretty sure it’s by design.

It does the same in opposite weather.
If you try to blast the heater when starting in cold weather, instead of blasting you with cold air...the system waits until enough heat is generated before blowing the fan at full speed.

Some newer vehicles have added electric heater assist...where it temporarily heats electric elements while waiting for the engine to build the heat the heater normally relies on but without that, it waits until it can help before blasting air.

Easy to test on hot or cold days.
Cold out? The heater fan will wait to go full.
Hot day? The AC fan will wait to go full.

I never run in Auto (in either the 100 or 200) so you could definitely be onto something. In manual, when I start it on cold it's blowing cold within seconds at whatever fan speed it was left on.

So I guess that's another question for the OP.... are you running climate in full auto? Or three round burst? ;-)

99% of the time, I’m on Auto, and then just use the up/down buttons to set temp.

Sometimes I force the fan to blow and a different speed by hitting climate button and cranking the fan to High or Low (which deactivates Auto...but I don’t usually want to do that, because it’s not gonna be pleasant or helpful on startup...

It will still aim for the temp set at the forced fan speed, but it can’t change how quickly it gets to actual hot or to cold on startup.

You mean newer like in our mutual LC and LX vehicles? There is an electric assist in the defrost circuit in the 200 series. At least there is on my 2013. I’ve seen it mentioned in the service manual. Here in Minnesota it doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of difference. It was also in my old 4Runner.

There is a coil at the base of the windshield glass but I don’t believe there is any electric HVAC heat?

That might be what I was remembering rather than cabin heater assist thing. Helping defrost the windshield would be a small task compared to heating the whole cabin, so that makes sense.

Frankly not sure on my 2008. I know I have the de-icers under the blades, but not sure about the other. Mine switches to outside air in defrost, and if it has electrical assist...I don’t know.

Really just mentioned it in relation to the whole instant cooling/instant heat expectation by the OP. :meh:

If you go to the TIS for the 2013 LC /Vehicle Interior/Heating-Air Conditioning/PTC Heater Assembly/ you’ll see directions on how to Inspect, Diagnose, and Remove the heater element that is inside the Air Conditioning Unit Assembly. From the header on that page it looks like the feature started in the 2013 model year.

Ya, I’ll look it up in my service manual files (thanks @linuxgod !) just for kicks...

2013 seems like a sweet spot for used. Definitely added a number of upgrades I wish mine had...like front camera in 4-Lo...better cruise control, etc.
