Previously had a 08' FJ, great off roader and better road manners once I changed out the suspension to kings. ATRAC and locks felt like I can do most things.

Problem I have is with two kids, FJ was doable with one kid but twice the evil back doors is downright stupid in parking lots. A bit more space would be great!! Strollers take up a bunch of space Add a cooler and all the bags needed, the FJ fills up in a heart beat.

Been looking at a LC100/LX or pondering the idea of near full size truck aka the 1st gen tundra DC

Downside of the truck is it is open diff pretty much. No ATRAC or lockers, so lockers will be on the upgrade list along with tires and sliders. The wheel base is also massive but I don't have very many tight trails or at least felt tight in the FJ. 140" wheelbase in a DC tundra vs 112" on a 100 series

Upside, it darn easier to find a decent tundra over a 100 series. 200 trucks vs maybe 40 nation wide. And a few grand cheaper then a similar yr LC/LX to get the VVTI package

If I got an 100, I plan to get 33s, sliders and more usable roof rack for cargo boxes, fuel and fire wood. I'd need a hitch rack for my bikes.

If I got the tundra, would be same plus lockers and no roof rack would be needed.

Any opinions?

own both, an 06' DC TRD long bed and a 99' locked 100. I use the SUV for trips because of the 8 seat option. I use the TRUCK for DD and everyday ranch uses. I like, use, and "can have" both. Would probably give up the tundra first, though.

people = 100
cargo = tundra

my .02.

I had a 2000 LC that I replaced with an 04 Tundra Doublecab because I wanted a truck bed. Long story short, I missed the LC so bad that I got an 03. Tundra sat for 4 or 5 months afterward, only being used for odd tasks that required a truck bed. Sold it. Kind of Wish I had kept it, but it was just a lot of money rotting away in the driveway. Was a great truck, but after a 100, you won't be happy with a Tundra for a daily driver.

Same boat here. I've had my 06 Tundra since 2011. I love it. It was perfect when it was just me and my dogs with the bikes or kayak.
Now with a girlfriend and her kid, plus the dogs, i needed a bit more covered/controlled volume. The tundra is 2wd also, which was really limiting my offroad desires here in FL.

I wish my 00 LX had the VVTI and 5 speed from the Tundra, but i'll manage without.

We like having SUV for ability to carry people. If we need a truck bed to carry something, we just rent $20/day Uhaul trailer.
