We talked about a Death Valley Run in late February or early March at the meeting last week. That doesn't leave much time for planning.
I'd like to do a few trails on the east side of Death Valley; Chloride, Echo Canyon, and Hole in the Wall. Joanne and I are up for anything though.

Let's get a plan together and set some dates!

I MIGHT be in for this if the trails are mild enough for the taco!!!!
Itd be a good warm up for Blotch and to see if the rig will handle it okay!
How many days are we talking?

The nice thing about DV is you can do anything from mild to wild and still have a great time. So we can make the trip anything we want.

It's all open to discussion right now so how long and where we go is up in the air.

IMHO we need at least two travel days and two days in the park.

Will non Toyota products be welcome?

(if the 80 sells)
thanks,
ken

Isn't the stuff around Chloride closed? I thought that I read it was. You could still go to Rhyolite and the Titus Canyon area.

I'm going down there the last week of March if anyone from Reno is interested.

I called the visitors center just now. Just the Keane - Wonder Mine access is closed, everything else is open.

I would really like to go on this trip(not in the 40 tho). The 4 runner would be my first choice. It has 33s and a 3 inch lift. Deer Valley is probably the hardest trail it will ever do(And has done). After fixing the boots on the front axle and seeing how they work and the strength, it probably should just be used for a #2 trail rig. It has been great for just a hunting rig and my wife uses it when the snow piles up. Anyway Feb for me is shot except maybe for the last wknd. Getting away for four days is always tough. I would be able to stretch a weekend. Off at noon on friday and meet up that night or sat morning. Then out and home by sunday night. The curse of having your own business. If work is slow or we get some weather I could maybe swing a full friday which means travel on thurs night etc. etc.If that works I am in;p:);):cool:.

I would love to go and I thought we might be able to work something out over President Day weekend, but it just isn't going to work out for us. Maybe next year. We are just kind of screwed this year.

Ok I guess I killed it. :doh:What I should have said is I am psyched to wheel DV. Can meet anywhere. I'm ready!.

The 4runner should be perfect, we have at least a couple of years worth of trails to check out before we need to start exploring the more technical ones.

I'm sure we could work out a route that would accommodate your time constraints.

Ok then. Let's pick a wknd and start to plan.

Hard to believe that I have lived so close to this natural wonder all my life and haven't seen it.

YAHOOOO!

Good idea why don't we throw out some dates and then put up a poll?

We are pretty much open to go as soon as it gets warm enough at night to sleep comfortably.

With or without a heater? :flipoff2:

Ok, I was looking at the calender wrong. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

We are looking at February 19-22. That is Friday through Monday.

Hopefully that will work for everyone.

Now are we planning finding a spot and setting up base camp or what? We can either do Saline Valley as a base or somewhere in the Panamint valley (at the foot of Surprise Canyon) both of these areas are free and offer a tremendous variety of terrain to explore and hike, plus you can make it into the park fairly easy.

We are looking forward to trying out our new OZtent.

Jack,
Are you open to the first weekend in March by chance? Mar. 6 weekend?
Julez and I were planning on going back to Chicago again, but its just too expensive. So julez HAS the time off that weekend...

If not, dont re arrange anything. I havent talked with her about it yet. I was just considering that as an option.

I wish, but March is completely booked at her work for time off. The Feb. dates aren't even a for sure thing yet, they are just the only option and if they don't work out, we are out of options.

If those dates don't work for everyone, we understand also, majority rules.

We need to be retired, then it wouldn't matter, 'cause like my father-in-law says, "When you are retired, every day is Saturday."
