Calico John and I mentioned this at the last club meeting, but haven't got around to posting it up yet.

We'll leave Friday night and camp in the desert somewhere between Palmdale and Ballarat [location is TOP SECRET!]

Saturday drive thru Goler into Striped Butte valley, maybe as far as Warm Springs. Camp.

Sunday drive into Death Valley and explore on our way to the racetrack. Camp.

Monday [columbus day] those that want to can go with us over Lippencott to Saline for a couple of days of soaking. Those who need to get back to 'responsibilities' can take the 190 back out to Olancha and head home.

This run is NOT OPEN to non-Trail Crew members, so that's why camping locations are not going to be posted. This does not mean John and I may not be inviting some non-club members to join us; just that it is not OPEN. If you are not a member, call one of us or better yet, come to the club meeting.

Weather will be optimal and the scenery outstanding....as always.;)

Mark,
Can my stocker make this? If it's mostly dirt roads stuff then I am very interested. If it's technical then I'll pass.

I don't consider the trails technical. A lot of washboard and some off camber washouts. If you stay on for the M-W section, Lippencott could get a little 'interesting with some 12" rocks and some off camber [just a rumour I heard, not sure if it's true].

I run up lippencott last febuary and back down, in my stock 4 runner. No big deal.

And it took HOW LONG to clean the carpets from your passenger's binge drinking aftermath?:eek::eek:

So, you gonna start coming around again?

well i was able to stop the truck most of the time so he could puke outside, but we left the springs at 10am and went to the racetracks via lippencott, then on to the crater, up and around to the 190. We got home around 10 pm. It should be on note that i drive fast in the dirt, 80 mph at times and 80 on the freeway. I am going to come to the next club meeting, i have been working hard at work and i just got back from a 10 day backpacking trip. We hike about 126 mi of the John Muir trail, hitting Whitney along the way. I pmed you my new phone number, and some info on the rock crawler in Whittier, if i get a chance i will call you at the shop today

Did you take any pictures of the backpacking trip? I'd love to acend whitney from the East side sometime.

I did take a great deal of pic, I have only come down the Whitney portal trail. I have summit twice buth time we started our trip from new army pass and approached Whitney from the south. The route is great because you see no one for like 3 days, when you are off trail heading north past sky blue lake. 3 years ago we ran in to Chuck Yeager back by sky blue lake and hiked with him up to upper crab tree lake, then on to mt Muir with him.

That sounds like some good times. I've never been in that backcountry but it's on my list of things to do. Post up a few pics if you can...

Can this death valley trip be done in a weekend or is it useless to travel so far up the 395? I've done Mammoth weekend trips and those can be long.

There are a couple of guys who have to be back at work Monday. THey are planning to do part of the trip with us. Turnaround to SCV should run about 4 hours.

I may join you for the weekend part then. We shall see.

I did it in a stock Tundra 4x4 with my friend in his stock Sequoia 4x4 in January. But I know that road can change after a storm.

I'd love to go but I have something else going on those dates.

However, looks like we may be in Panamint Springs for a few days between Christmas and New Years.

Bummer, we'll be in Mammoth that whole week
