I don't know how many around here are actually in the Dayton area, I know there's a couple from Cincinnati, and a few in Columbus, but figured I'd ask just in case.

I called around to 4 or 5 different junkyards around Xenia on Saturday, looking for parts for various vehicles. I only managed to find one or two of the parts I was looking for, and more often I was met with "We don't sell parts," "We don't have foreign parts," "We don't have parts that new," or "We don't have parts that old". I suppose the thing I was most disappointed with is that none of these places seemed to be the type where I could just show up with a toolbox, take the stuff I needed out of some junkers, pay for it, and be on my way. I've heard from some friends that there may be a couple of places nearby that might do that sort of thing, and thought maybe the audience here might have some more input.

I've lived here for a while, but until now I've never really had a vehicle that I was able to "customize" much; I always stuck with the parts I could get from the new parts places in town. Now I've got a 20-year old truck that I plan to turn into something of a mutt, and a junkyard seems like it would be the best place to find some of the bigger replacement parts like axles, and some of the smaller items like bits of the electrical system.

When I lived in NC, we had places you could just wander around in for a couple of hours until you saw something on junked car that, if you were willing to put the time and energy into taking it off and lugging it back to your vehicle, it was yours for a small fee. I was a little disappointed when the half dozen places I called didn't seem to be anything like that. It's possible I was looking for the wrong thing, so does anyone know of any places like that around here?
