Well thanks to the HELLAHAMOM. I have been daily driving the 40 for a while now and I got to say it is AWSOME.
I have a colection of business cards that have been put on my windshield with "Please call me if you decide to sell your 40. I use to own one and regret selling it".
Switching out to 3.73 gears worked out great. My RPMS stay between 1800 to 2000. My gas milage has improved as well (I havent finished measuring my actual MPG). The best part is I am now saving $50 a week on gas compared to driving my diesel truck.
I drove out to DEVILS PLAYGROUND and it performed flawlessly on the hiway on my way there cruising at 70 MPH and crawling over obstacles when I got there.

Got to say I am finally getting to enjoy the old girl and loving it.

Thanks again to all the guys for helping me out switching out the thirds. I owe you guys a couple  at our next get together.
:steer:

That's funny, I had forgotten about all the business cards I used to get. After I moved West, that completely stopped. I still have the occasional "nice cruiser" comment, but never a card or an offer to buy like in ATL or NC. BTW, I am driving about 2 hours every day now, and the only thing that gets me is when it's 7 degrees or so. I still get some drafts at 70mph and my feet get cold. Other than that, a 40 as a daily isn't half bad. Good to see you're doing the same.

awesome!

Del,

I'm glad you are driving your 40 on a regular basis. You have a sweet rig. Hopefully mine will be on the road soon. As I type this we are working on the wiring. What a fun time I'm having. I look forward to cruising the roads with ya.

Semper Fi,
Adam

My plans are to do the same thing on my other one. Make it pretty, and DD it. I'll have the other for beating on...

Del, the truck looked great even in the dark. And the new tag-a-long makes one sweet package.
Im glad shes running good for you and bringing the joy.

Being out at Devils Playground made me realize that I need to get a beater rig that I am not afraid to break. There was a Zusuki Samurai that was basicly stock that walked all over that place, outperformed most of the tube buggies with rockwells. Unfortanetly I am moving in summer so I dont want to get into another project and then have to move it with me.

I did not get any action shots from Devils Playground but since every body likes pics here is one next to my buddies fully built awsome H3.

This pic is on my way home from work one day afew weeks ago. I was running out of gas so decided to take a short cut through the reserve. Well I did not make it to the gas station and I took thi pic right before I hooked it up to my truck and pulled it to the gas station :bang:

The weaher was great for a few days so decided to change out the hard doors for the soft doors

Took advantage of the nice weather and went out to the lake on the reserve and do some exploring. Lucas gave the soft doors the seal of approval

And finally here is 2 pics after testing out the new trailer.

Here I was testing the turning radius in the backyard.

That is a sharp 40 but it looks like you're gonna need an AAL in the rear if you plan to put anything in that trailer!

Well after about a year or probably more of no back window (Lost the rear flip up when I lost my original top) I decided to tackle installing the new to me barn doors that I bught when I bought the new top.
It has been cold and my heater just cant keep up with the open rear. My 40 is a 69 and the doors are from a 73 I believe. I was afraid I would have to modify the doors. All I had to do is cut the insulation in half and they lined up.
I did drill out two holes on the body because I still want to be able to run the half doors when the top is off.
Pretty impressed for a few hours of garage time.

the initial alignment

Both on but nite quite algined yet

installed and painted

one more

Dont mind the over spray on the bottom. The diamond plate stuff is coming off in the next couple of days.

Still need to install the license plate but the task for today was to install the doors.

Getting the cruiser ready for its first long distance trip to the mountains in a few weeks.

looks great Del. Love the barn doors; but the trailer doesnt look good at all. I can help you not move it to FL if you like ;)

Seems ive driven mine 2hrs plus each day since I saw you last.

Time to look at recaros :D

Jason
I thought about changing out my seats also but the seats that are in there now are very comfortable. I might change them out at a later date though. 40 is still running rich so I am going to have to bring it in to get the carb properly tuned. Maybe improve gas milage even more.

Looks great.

That H3 was featured in a recent four wheeler. It looks great I love those lines.

Wandering when someone would mention that.
That h3 is nice. Walked all over DPG. Now if I can convince the wife to let me do the conversion on hers.

Was going to ask about this.

Luckily someone posted this.

Del, great inspiration. I'm really digging it. I know all of the small trials/tribulations you've had with it. Still remember the first time I saw you pull thru the reservations...thought to myself "why didn't I think of that :)". And to think the reason you still have it is becuase that top blew off

See you down here soon.

Jason,
There is a Team SGT that is hell bent on buying it off me but at this point I am pretty sure Im keeping it. I think she is afraid of what I will buy next.
The 40, especially now that it is running, will be pretty fun down in florida.
When is your 40 going to be done? That color looks awsome. If you want to sell it, Im sure I could sell it just by driving it a week to work. You know "deployment money" burns holes in some of guys' pockets.

Del

Daren,
If I can come over on a weeknight just let's know.
Just let me know what ur favorite  is so I don't show up empty handed. I know I also have to replace the spring that connects to the throttle cable. I believe that is bad from past experience. My throttle cable was Jerry rigged just to get it going. Maybe u can give me some pointers on how to fix that too.
I would love to come out on a weekend but it seems like I have been driving to florida every weekend to look at properties. Just let me know when is good for u.
I am trying to finish up loose ends on the rig because I am taking it out on a long ride through the north Georgia mountains and I want to enjoy the trip as much as possible
