So I have Casper, my toy 80, she’s a keeper! I also need something to commute in and it will be a Land Cruiser. Talking 25,000 miles a year, in the dark, in the rain, curvy two lane roads.

This is less of a comparison thread and more of a driving a classic thread???

I have this clean 40th anniversary 80 with only 166k on it. It’s pretty pimptacular and I enjoy driving it.

OR

Instead of putting 650 miles a week on what is becoming a “collectors” “hard to find” “low mileage” whatever 80, I could sell it to a weekend driver and get a “less classic” 100 series/ LX470 and just drive the wheels off it it.

SO

Why do I feel bad racking up miles on a truck that is made to be driven???

—>not getting a little car. I hate them. Period.

....ramble on...

Sell me the 97, seriously.

I get the "no small car" deal, been there, and though I've had a change of heart on that issue, I won't muddy up the waters.

My opinion (worth what you paid), if you don't sell it to Eric, as long as you're happy in it, just drive it. Yeah, you could sell it and get a 100, a 200, a GX, a...., but unless you bought it as an "investment", just drive it and smile big M-F, except when you gas up, but if you drive that much, maybe hit up Ward at cruiser brothers and get you a long range tank, then it only has to hurt once a week.

New job doesn’t allow me as much free time to tinker. Not sure if I need two 80s? Kind of just want something that takes minimal energy to drive or maintain.

I “feel” like a 100 might be that way?

Maybe I have an issue and just like buying trucks??

you are buying them, and not satisfying the itch, so you sell them immediately. Look at my sig line, none were bought to flip either...

Flip is a mean word. Any could be the last that I ever buy. I’ve had Casper for a long time. I’ve put 3 weekends of work and a few thound miles on the 40th.

I just want to own all of them at least once.

I agree on the 5.7 cause they get respectable gas mileage and are as powerful as even sports cars. They do 110 EASILY... I mean, not that I know that every time I get on the innerstate.
Seriously, find a good ‘08 or ‘09

I got 18 driving the speed limit plus 5 or so coming back from the beach but my daily commute nets me 11-12. I have never said I wish it had more power either. I have the LX with AHC and for commuting and overlanding I’m thinking it is better, by a good margin, than the LC suspension.

Agree on all fronts. I've started looking for the LX model lately, and hopefully will find one within the year... I MUST move some other driveway dwellers before I do though, otherwise, I might trade the things in on an LX570.

If it must be a cruiser and the 80 isn't scratching the itch, I'll agree, skip the 100 and go for a 200. That's what I want eventually.

(Warning - commuter car pitch follows)

That said, I'm a bit of a hoarder and have a few around and I daily a '16 vw jetta. I drive over 40k annually and when needed I can drive the old ford or a cruiser if I choose. I too swore I'd always be in a truck or SUV, but by accident I had to drive the wife's vw for a week, then back in my 4runner and when comparing fill-ups and mileage, I realized the car would do exactly what I needed. It is a utility vehicle we got to put miles on, it's a basic model, just get in and go.

(Ok, I've said it and I won't mention it again, but I needed to get it off my chest)

Whatever you decide, Casper is an awesome rig.

I quit taking my lx470 on work trips after putting 80k miles on it in 3 years. I want to keep it for a while and not have to keep replacing expensive tires, brakes, bearing service etc just to travel for work. I DD it around Bham and on personal trips.

I rent cars from enterprise for $160 weekly when traveling and the gas savings alone from my 13mpg 100 series to a 35+ mpg rental almost pays the rental fees (at $2.40 a gallon, it takes 1400 miles to zero the cost out), plus the $0.58 per mile auto allowance from the company more than pays the rental fee and gas I put it without the gas savings.

They wont be happy with me after taking this 2018 caddy xts down to my farm on Monday and covered it in mud, but whatever. :steer:

I have made my commute in a Hyundai and just hated hated it. It’s at 5am or 7pm, full of deer, log trucks, and rain on a two lane road.

I just pay the extra $80 a month in gas and drive an AWD truck that sits up higher to keep brights out of my eyes and maybe Bambi will bounce off the bumper instead of coming through the windshield.

I might be inheriting an 04 Avalon with 130k on it, but I’m going to sell it for gas $$
