So I've swapped, installed new, rebuilt too many CVs for my rig to remember/count.

I bought a couple new OEM CVs from Onur when he was at Proffitts: One for immediate use and the other for future use (its not "if" but "when" as most of you know).

So the "when" is now...and I can't get the new OEM, one of two purchased at the same time, to 'go home"...it just won't fully seat to the mating splines in the diff.

Nominal difference in OD but as you can see the first spline area is very different on these two OEM cvs. I'll keep trying to get it to seat...just an FYI for you if you cross the same path.

Two different OEM LC CVs.webp

Well I found the reason the existing CV has that nice burnish mark! The plate washer/compression shim shifted...a precursor to more diff parts I'm sure...and wouldn't allow the new cv to be inserted.

So I get to find a local diff guy...oh fun.

So the front diff is apart. The spacer shim Sean (River City Diffs, Sacramento...don't go there or if you do remember you were warned :D) used apart of the ARB locker and 4.88 install he did was not the correct OD part. Fortunately the R&P are in beautiful condition...can you say lapped to uber smooth shininess?!

Decided while the diff, cvs, etc are out to go ahead and replace the front frame side LCA bushings. Need to get one tool made for this job and hope I can get the old bushings removed without cutting them out. BTW these bushings, with~218k miles on them, are in OK shape...with the rubber just starting to show degradation/stretch marks.

God I hope I get all the parts I've been waiting for from Fox, et al, and get my rig rolling again before the 4/15 cut-off date for Panoche area trails...sure be nice to do a 2 nighter up there...Les?
