I thought we were talking about CV's? No cone washers or ball joints! The steering knuckle just slides off the UCA spindle. The only tricky part is getting inner ring to pop into the diff without damaging the boot. It's a messy job but not complicated or overly technical. Just make sure to get the clamps from pFran and it will make the back-together part much happier.
I'm not sure I agree. I've taken the CV's out twice, once to replace, and once to do the front diff.
I tried, and tried and tried. I even had extra hands. I tried everything to not have to remove the ball joints. Even removing the sway bar end links for extra room...
...I don't see how you can get the CV out without removing the knuckle from at least one ball joint.
Now...my old 3rd gen runner...piece of cake...axle swap in 30 min.
