Cutting Torch or Parker Plasma?

i like the torch because its more versitile and you also get more bang for your buck if your looking at cutting thicker metal...i.e. i cut about 2" mild steel plate with a POS torch at school...the schools plasma gives me grief with 1/2" plate so i dont bother with it unless im cutting less then 1/8th then its nice, thought iv heard good things about the parkers and the price is right too....hhhmmm im gunna be in trouble once work starts again and i have to choose between buying tools (welders, torches and other goodies) and buying build up parts, i think ill compramise though and do a bit of both
 
For most automotive and home fab work cutting 1/2" plate is rare. I cannot think of anything that I would need to use 2" plate for. Unless it is fixing heavy equipment.

The parker will handle 1/2" plate with ease..
 
yea, for auto work 1/2" is rare i agree and i rarely cut material that thick but its nice that if you do have to do it then its still not a problem. iv needed to cut 1" several times and 2"only once but its just good to have the capability
 
I would use a bandsaw/chop saw on anything that thick.
 
it would defanitly make a nicer cut but its a PITA to cut a circle on horizontal band saw....even if you just took corners off it would take longer to cut and need to go to the laith anyways...
