Cut out old wiring box?

So added my Hoppy plug-n-Play last week but need to know if I am supposed to cut out the old splice in wiring box.

connected with the red connectors. Im assuming so but wasnt sure.

Any help? Yay/Nay?

Take it out. Remove the connectors and tape the spots where they pierced the wire coating. Done deal.
