I noticed my battery light had come on while in line to get coffee this morning . Immediately shut it down upon noticing . 5 minutes later she started up just fine with no warning light . Then about 2 miles down the road the whole dash lit up including battery . I was close to my moms house so headed in that direction and made it luckily . Shut her down again and started searching for loose connections and bad fuses . Found nothing and now I only get the dreaded clicking when trying to start . FYI I replaced my alternator and battery less than one year ago . All indications point to the alternator but why are all my lights lit up ? Could it be something else ?

The computers aren't happy with lower voltage than normal. Last time my battery died I couldn't turn my headlights off. As soon as the battery charged up it was fine. Sounds like you need an alternator and maybe a new battery and you should be good to go

Thank you for the reply . I’m hoping the Christmas tree dash is just a symptom of the low voltage . Heading back that way with a voltmeter and a battery charger now .

Put it on a charge and all lights did indeed disappear . Looks like my remanufactured denso alternator lasted just over 1 year . Bummer

That’s a bummer on the denso reman only lasting a year. I’ve had my denso reman for close to 5 years and no issues.

I kept the working original Lexus alternator as a spare. I should find a place to remanufacture my spare.

Yeah I’ve never experienced this before so I’m still looking for reasons why . Best thing I can figure out is doodoo happens .

So what’s the plan? Rebuild? Exchange it as core for another reman? Get a new one from Lexus?

I think new ones are hard to find but I have seen some online Lexus dealers carry it new for like $380

I went with another reman because it was readily available. Hopefully lightning doesn’t strike twice as far as short lifespan goes . If so there has to be a contributing factor .

That's a safe bet. I forgot to mention that the first gen sequoias have a slightly larger alternator (150A) that fits the GX470s without any additional modifications. You get extra 20A since the GX470 has a 130A alternator. The part number for the Sequoia alternator is Denso 210-1066.

I was looking into upgrading to this alternator, but my Denso reman 130A is running strong and I have the Lexus OEM 130A sitting in a box (it was working fine when I did preventive maintenance replacemet). So, double check my info in case you want to upgrade to a slightly larger alternator...not that we know what's your problem...but just mentioning it.

As was pointed out to me recently, if you go through water/puddles regularly, the alternator is mounted low next to the opening in the wheel well and gets splashed so going slow is a good idea. Also replace your fender liners with some RAD Rubber if they're cracked or have holes. Water kills alternators

But splashing water 💦 really high seems like a lot of fun!

Haha it still is and I've still done it. Just understanding the potential consequences is a good idea

Thanks for the reminder ! I learned of this after the last time I replaced my alternator. Took my new reman back and picked up this sequoia alternator instead .

👍🏻 Recently installed new liners after rolling without for quite sometime .

Update : the only thing I found that may have contributed to the early demise was the 12mm nut was completely stripped out . Alternator was basically held on by the two 14mm .

That’s the sexiest alternator I’ve ever seen.
Sorry man, the alternator they provide looks VERY stock. The pic on the box with billet cases is different and more along the lines of high power car stereo ones. Believe me, if that was an option, my dumbass would gladly pay extra for the sexy one. I can run out to my truck and snap a pic installed if you wish.
