Can someone tell me how the cruising range under trip information is figured?

It's VERY approximated, but...volume of fuel remaining in tank x Miles per Gallon = Driving Range

Im sorry guys that was the dumbest question ever. It's just that when on my recent trip I was using it and it said I only had 10 miles left and I was sweating bullets coming from Billings to Sheridan on I90 where there are limited gas stations. Well i was down to the 10 miles left when I got to Sheridan but when I filled up I only put 20 gallons in. So I wasnt sure if it was measuring you down and then you had 5 gallons left.

I find the fuel range to be very elastic depending on driving conditions. With as big a car the hundy is, efficiency goes down the drain in city driving, high speed highway driving, and steep hill climbs.

That said, I've found hyper milling techniques to work very well (techniques I'm aware of that I don't particularly enjoy). Gradual acceleration and keeping speeds under 65mph on the fwy makes the range go way up - over 400 miles to the tank. This is especially true if you have plus sized your tires as it's much easier to dip into high load engine mappings/situations where it runs rich.

I don't think anyone knows for sure, unless they programmed the ECU logic. But it seems to weight more recent MPG reading more heavily in estimating the remaining range. it were me, I'd use some EWMA algorithm, but we're all just guessing at this point..
