April Social - Cruisers & Coffee
What
: Casual gathering of Cruiserheads and maybe a light run through Demonte Ranch Highlands.
When: Saturday April 10, 2021 @ 9AM
Where: The Human Bean, 3300 US HWY 50, Carson City, NV 89701
Bring: Land Cruisers! Chairs, dress warm, lunch, trails coms and recovery gear if you plan to do the run after coffee.

@lelandEOD & @gregnash: Lemme know if you'd rather hold this elsewhere. I passed by this place today and it is right on the corner of Kietzke and Moana with lots of visibility.

Details:
This is a public event hosted by Battle Born Cruisers so non-Toyota based vehicles may show up. All are welcome! Trail run is TBD. I am curious what the club thinks Hunter Lake Trail will look like right now. Has anyone been up there around this time of year? Fallback could be Jumbo? We can discuss at the club meeting on Thursday.

I would assume that anything that is in shadow or north/nw facing is still going to be in snow and/or ice. Just riding my mtb in Ash Canyon above the college in Carson here, the main saddle that faces Mark's house still has small sections of snow/ice on it. Other than being in shadow most of the day from the mtn itself, it is all otherwise exposed. So that would make me think that getting up to Hunter Lake would probably be a bitch, but the worst part would becoming around that NW side trail to the Cabela's area.

So with the change in venue for this month, depending on weather and snow melt we could possibly change the optional run afterwards to go up Goni Canyon to the radio towers then drop into VC that way via multiple routes. With this weeks snow storm, we will likely hit snow and ice in those north facing gullies so this may be a run where the back side is taking the frontage road/Ophir Road to Gold Hill and then popping out there.

There are also tons of off road trails in the Centennial Park area that I have only explored on my mtb but always see side-by-sides and jeeps out there due to the high volume of horses that are usually in those canyons. Would be all "service road" so nothing technical that I am aware of. But from my understanding, the trails all reach to VC as there is a local mtb group that puts on a ride that does from Centennial to VC and then back along the VC highway.

Given that Sunday is Easter and those of us with kids have all sorts of weekend plans, should we consider bumping this event to April 10 to maximize attendance?

This might not be a bad idea. What do you guys think @lelandEOD and @gregnash? This was kinda your baby so I'll leave it to you guys to decide. I didn't think about Easter when I suggested the first Sat of each month...

I was actually thinking the same thing with the holiday. I am good with postponing it until another weekend.

The route I took yesterday up near the BLM Field office was fun and could be 2-hour run or a 3 more hour run too. So we got options for sure! I'm kinda keen to check out the trails to VC though... Lunch at the end of the trail is always cool!

Alright guys I am going to have to bow out on stuff for a little bit.
Already working with Ryan, but looks like Alita's steering rack may have s*** the bed this weekend. Was at the ex's house taking the dogs for a walk when I came back to a massive puddle under one side. Definitely rack/tre on passenger side but not sure to what extent yet. Gotta get it up on Ryan's lift and have him do some work to see what all has happened.

You need a backup cruiser! ;) I hope you can get is all sorted out.

Well I was planning on going to the Coffee part of it but not the run. But if you guys want just a fun little loop I would take you from top of timberline drive to as far as we could go to Hobart reservoir(snow will stop us about a mile from the res.) which is up Ash Canyon and then back past the water towers to lower timberline drive. It would only take about an hour to do that. My rig will be down after that. I just don't trust my steering right now to do a major run to far away from home.

We can do the milder parts of the run up to [butt]Crack'in Lake and circle back down around Brunswick Canyon Road. I'll lead the trail @Krusty Krab and there is minimal to no pinstriping on that trail so good for the pretty TLCs too @lelandEOD ;) Round trip is 1-1.5 hours and it starts about five mins from the coffee shop.
