Not to talk bad about the cerakote, but it really is not an insulative coating it is a "looks nice and stands up to the temperature" coating. The only really ceramic coating that I know of that actually significantly reduces radiated heat is Swain Tech. But it is a very different coating it is 7.5 times thicker than coatings like cerakote and is actual ceramic.

No personal experience, but I was under the impression that Tech Line makes some coatings that reduce radiated heat as well.

Yeah I just don't see it being the same as the Swain Tech. Their Turbo X is the same kind of thing as Cerakote -

Tech Line Turbo X.
"Designed for single coat coverage. Dry film thickness of .001″ to .0015″"

Swain Tech White Lightning
"White Lightning is applied much thicker than any of the cosmetic coatings. White Lightning is applied about .015” thick"

Swain Tech is 10 times thicker and is an actual ceramic not a coating with some ceramic particles in it.

Just one guy's opinion.

I think their "Satin Black Exhaust Coating" is the one they recommend as their best thermal barrier, but their application thickness seems to have the same description for everything. I've read plenty of positive reviews touting lower underhood temperatures for both Tech Line and Swain Tech (and Jet Hot for that matter), but everyone swears that the product they used is the perfect choice and I can't find anyone who seems to have experience with more than one. I would be interested to see a legit third party comparison. Is one better, and if so, how much better?

I've got no dog in the fight other than being interested for potential personal use, but I'm not too proud to say cost is a factor. If I can get some reasonable percentage of the results at a reasonable percentage of the price, I'm interested. Worth considering beyond just install price is the fact that Swain only applies their coating themselves, and shipping parts to and from New York is no longer negligible as a factor.

Anyway, sorry for the tangent folks.

Took her for her first rip over to the exhaust shop this morning. She boogies with just a downpipe, totally different truck and driving experience. She is much quieter with the exhaust hooked up. But she still rips, less turbo noise so one day I’ll go full 3” I am so stoked with how she turned out. What an absolute blast to drive. 4.88, 37s, part time kit, bumpers, back seats, drawers, spare, rtt and awning she’s pretty chunk and she moves now.
Sweet new stickers add even more hose ponies😎

Yours build sound exactly like mine right up til all the foofoo stuff!

Finally! It’s been 21 months since my first call to discuss the Stage 1 kit with Johnny. Now, with the engine and transmission rebuilt, the turbo kit installed, and a couple bugs worked out, I’m experiencing drivability in an 80 far more enjoyable than the previous two I owned since 2014.

Thanks C&C for the great product and support.

How's running w/out intercooler?

There is zero lag time but that’s about all I can say for now. Putting it under load in hot weather will be the test but I’m quite sure this set up has been tested under varying conditions already.

Is that normal for people to air laundry and throw vendors under the bus on this forum?

Not cool man. Just sayin.

As a small business owner, I can tell you that this kind of public flogging can absolutely destroy a small business.

@Cruisers and Co has always responded to my emails. If they were delayed they had good reasons - shop closed, they’re at an event like Cruise Moab, etc.

I’m sure we can all appreciate being given the benefit of the doubt. Let’s support these small shops who still bother to make cool mods for our trucks. Cut them some slack.

Here’s a video!

Damn this gets me so excited!

My gauges should be here any day. Been debating whether to Cerakote my stuff now before the install.

Watching these vids and photos makes me want to call in sick to work for a week and knock it out! Haha

Clocked a little over 1000 miles on the turbo already. What an absolute blast it is to drive. Loaded up with family and stuff to the brim she was scooting. I’m only seeing like 5psi and feeling the 2.5” exhaust is the restriction. But still at 5psi this thing is a new truck. It just goes effortlessly. Love this thing, not a big fan of $5 93 though. Averaging about 12mpg fully loaded going 70-80mph. Also rolled over 250k on the truck, about 20k on the new engine and 1k on the turbo 🤘🤙🔥
Good job @Cruisers and Co 👍👍👍

Started installing my turbo kit yesterday. Documenting it in this thread.

I decided to remove the exhaust heat shields to get
better access to the bolts to remove the factory exhaust Y pipe. It was probably not a great idea. First bolt head broke right off.

Any tips for removing these? Will I end up having to drill and tap all 6 of these darn bolts?

soak bolts in penetrating oil, then do it hot
atf, kerosene and acetone mix works good

I wouldn’t mess with them. Likely going to break every single one lol. Get to the y pipe bolts from below

Few long extensions and you’ll be good from the bottom. Start spraying those now also.

Thanks - working on it now. One of the sides on the existing Y pipe has the nuts on the TOP side. Weird.

Looks like you coated or painted your J pipe?
