Any opinions on gearing with 35s with the turbo?
Debating a regear, but perhaps I should put that cash in the turbo fund 🤔

Seems like the lower highway RPM would actually be preferred if power was up a bit.
Yes, I've been meaning to post something about this! Now that there are some out there with a ton of different combo's and I have driven Turbo'd 4:10's w 35's, 4:88 w/ 35's, 5.29 w/ 37's and 4.82's w/ 37's (5.29 + .911 OD gears) I can say that I prefer 4.10's with 35's and 4.82's with 37's (4.88 with 37's would be perfect too) vs the typical 80 non turbo'd gearing for the respective tire sizes when cruising on the highway. If you feel like you need a little bit more gear after turboing with 35's I would recommend the 1.091 ("10%") Under drive gears. Those would bring you to a axle drive of 4.48:1 and way cheaper than regearing.

Thanks, I'm on the fence on turbo plans but tearing into the t case now. I'll go ahead and send it on the underdrive, can't see regretting that.

Ideally I'd turbo it first and see what I liked but I need the tcase as a maintenance item now. Maybe with all that newfound powa I'll be totally satisfied 😂

I ran like that on 33s for awhile and still enjoyed it. I had planned on going with larger tires at the time and didn't feel like opening the TC more than once 😂.

H152 or A750.... 🤔 Either would be amazing

I'm hoping someone is working on the A750 adaptation. I have that 5sp in the 4runner and it's so freaking sweet.

Interesting, but I’m not sure I completely understand.

I’m running the WE turbo with 35”s, stock gears.

Are you suggesting just doing a re-gear on the t-case only?

If so, that would negate having to do both axle gears? I always assumed I’d eventually go with 4.56 or 4.88’s, but never thought about just doing the t-case.

Is there a pro/con to doing just this?

I've decided that with a turbo a truck on 33's does not need a regear (only talking about high range with turbo for all the following combos) of any sort, a truck on 35's and 4.10's works great, 4.10's + 10% UD and 35's would work great, 4.88's is a bit over geared for with the turbo and 35's. 37's 5.29's are over geared and 4.88s or 5.29 + OD gears to drop to 4.81 would be the way to go on 37's. 39+ 5.29.

Yes you could do just TCase gears and 4:10 + 10% UD (aren't actually 10%) would net 4.48 which would work well and be easier/cheaper than regearing the front and rear.

Personally with our setup I think 4:10's and 35's work great and wouldn't bother with the TCase gears unless you just want higher rpm while cruising. Take this next sentence with a grain of salt as I have only driven one WE truck and what I felt was that you guys come into boost a bit later than our setup and that the range of boost was less usable so because it developed higher up in rpm so in your situation bringing the rpms up a bit while cruising may help if you feel you're still lacking on hills

This is on my way home (Denver 5000ft) from work with the cruise control on, slight hill ill develope a few pounds and it will just hold. Speedo is off but GPS is correct and ignore oil pressure it died in Montana doing submarine stuff a few weeks ago...

How much boost did you have when you hit the water 😂🤣

Meant to find you guys at Rubithon. Did you go run the turbo rig there?

I was trying my hardest to make it out to rubithon this year but it wasn’t in the cards

I’m loving the 37s with the 5.29 and OD tcase. Makes this whale move!

Here’s me testing the turbo in the water.

There... Fixed it for you!

the scan gauge is about 3mph slow. This is also going up a long gradual hill. Used to struggle up at 55 before the turbo

So 37s with 5.29 gears and the 10% OD in the tcase is a good combo for your turbo? Just making sure cause that's what I am running right now. Just haven't installed the turbo yet.

this is what i run on my setup. moves my 37 inch toyos down the interstate and hold 80 on the hills. i love the new found power. for example: there's a big long hill here locally outside of Livingston MT. its a long stretch and usually get some pretty decent headwinds. My 80 will hold 80-85 up the entire way if i push her that hard. I did coming back this weekend. started at temps around 189 reached a max of 201. cooled down once i hit the bottom of the hill. was running about 4PSI of boost for most of the hill. the crazy part is about halfway up the hill i had to slow to 65 because a semi decided to pass another vehicle. I was able to get back up to 80-85 MPH after loosing my momentum. that's the best part. getting back up to speed after loosing it on the hill. Previously this is one of those hills that a stock 80 would be lugging up going 50 by the time you reach the top.

I'm working on doing a full review of my turbo setup when i have the time in the next couple of weeks.

For 37's the highway cruising is pretty awesome with that combo

Got out and ran Redcone with some guys from Rising Sun for the 4th of July it was a blast. South side of Webster still had a ton of snow so we were forced to come back on I70. I chose to go to Silverthorne and over the Eisenhower for more turbo data... Yeah life is good not flogging the hell out of it up to the Tunnel

Would the block off plate for the water jacket on the head be a good location to tap and connect the coolant line to the turbo? It's just above the water pump and in front of the thermostat bypass tube assembly (finger pointing to it). I prefer threaded connections.

Edited due to really bad photo with a finger pointing to a tensioner.

Let me try again. Would the tee to the water jacket on the head above the thermostat bypass tube be a good place to tap to connect the coolant line to the turbo? The thermostat bypass tube assembly (tube with two orings) shoves int he bottom of it and it bolts to the head.

Sorry about the horrible photo.

Anyone know what application the 1FZE FE head was used on that something connected to that port on the head?

That is your timing chain tensioner. DO NOT DRILL THAT

The connections provided in the kit for the water lines are threaded/compression fittings that come off the thermostat housing and go to the bypass line on the front of the motor
