Dont for get to get new struts for the rear hatch...On cold mornings like today they dont lift like they use to....I opened it this morning and turned to pick up some things to put in the back tuned back and cracked my head on the nice thin metal edge....
Get yer struts replaced before someone dies.... :)

Wow, I can feel the love! I worked construction for two years, towed a trailer every day, and took the stinger out every time I parked the trailer. I've never had one in when I wasn't towing.

I never pull the stinger- it's saved the rear tailgate on my 4Runner too many times. I've had a couple of people actually get angry at me when they hit it with their cars- like I should take damage because they're idiots. The wife and I hit it with our shins a couple of times at first, then you learn to respect it.

I don't think the 80 rear bumper needs much help, and I'd prefer to minimize damage to the other car. My wife has been rear ended twice in the 80, not a scratch on it. A little damage to the other cars, but they chose not to report it, many headaches avoided. My daughter's first solo drive began with backing into the Audi at high speed. Fortunately both cars have beefy, flat bumpers, no damage.

curious to know how your leg is doing.
I should get the rod out of my leg in June, it's causing a bit of pain. After over a year of riding my bicyle to work every day, the injured leg has half the max strength of the other leg in extension. I've heard that's likely to get better with the pin out, so I'm not worried about it. I haven't been able to run, after over 25 years of running, and I'm not going back to flying 'till I get the strength back. I'm working designing industrial machinery (love it), biking, and loving all this time with the family. This has probably been the best year I've had with the family, I have mixed feelings about going back to flying.

Scott,

Let your head and your heart make that decision - not your current leg situation.

Loved the Johnny Knoxville analogy. For anyone who's not rented the movie
"Jackass" with a couple buddies I highly recommend it. I'm 45 years old and the last time I was laying on the floor laughing hysterically like that must have been in my teens. The next day my stomach hurt, and I had some discoloration on my right thigh from slapping it. I did the latter so often that I had time to actually realize why it is we slap our knees. It is because you are laughing as hard as you physically can, but even this is not enough to express just how funny that movie is. There's a "funniness gap" that you need to fill by finding an additional way to express yourself. Since your mouth is busy already, you slap your knee to express it.

Mine has the evil hood drop option...

I tend to work on my cruiser with the nose parked down my steep driveway and slightly into my garage as it lowers the front enough to make it comfortable. The second time I did this, I discovered that the gas hood lifts will let the hood drop hard enough to cause the need for stitches in my noggin. I now put a stick in between the air filter and the hood.:D

My gas struts used to hit my tailgate on the top of my head all the time so I got them regassed and know I have to be careful the tailgate doesn't hit me on the chin on the way up.

BTW, base model and mid spec cruisers have barn doors over here. Only the GXLs and VXs get the tailgates here.

way to go mick..keep rubbing it in on wat aussies get that they dont;p

Like Russ, my trick is to hit my head on the open top part. Also last week I was cursing the "door ajar' warning when the dam light would not go out even after I stopped and re closed all four doors. Got to the supermarket and found the tailgate down!
