Cruiser Q III - CQ3

The club has tenatively scheduled a Marble/CB/Pearl/Taylor run Aug.25-26th, we would probably change dates to line up with the CQ3 run and maybe doing the Flat Tops in August instead, but thats for the club to decide.

I'm easy going. Whatever you guys want to do we can work around. Nice thing is its just me chatting with some other local TLC owners and then tossing out this thread and saying "ya know ---- sounds like a good trip, lets do it" Easy Peasy. I do know that some folks who attended last year did mention/comment that it would be nice to mix it up a bit and not do the Flat Tops again. So I figured the elks are an easy target from Glenwood...hence my tentative thoughts/route.

Let me know so we can maximize participation.....I'd love to have 10-15-20 rigs come out this year.

Yeah the club is pretty easy going too. The biggest thing was we were trying to avoid doing the same area twice in a month we want to mix it up and hit up as many different places as possible. Theres plenty of time to get dates set but the sooner the better.

Thanks for the invite! Most everything on our calendar is tentative, https://forum.ih8mud.com/co-book-cliff-cruisers/547707-2012-event-calendar.html

I agree, we would likely make that trip the transfer trail as we originally planed.

I will be in the San Juan's leading another trip the same weekend as the Cruiser-Q so take care and have fun. Should be a great time for some of the other club members.

so it sounds like CQ3 can/should proceed with planning a trip through the Elks for the last weekend in September....awesome!

Oh ya I'm not a member of the Book Cliffs but its sounds like you'll be doing a x-fer trail run...can I join you guys on the trip?

You should join the club, were having a blast!

A co-worker of mine in our Gunnison office is the caretaker for the Crystal Mill...he also knows everyone in the town of Crystal (all 10 of ten hehe). They rent out those cabins during the summer months. I was trying to work it out to get a bunch of them for the CQIII run but they will be closed at that time. (bummer) none-the-less if anyone is interested in staying up there here is the contact info for reserving the cabins: Debbie Hiese, 951-317-6205 If I remember correctly they run $50-60 / night depending on the cabin. They have similar amenities to the 10th mountain huts.

p.s. if anyone is passing through Crystal the weekend of August 17-19th we'll be doing some restoration work on the Mill....stop by and say hi!!!

Several years ago I stopped in Crystal to ask about trail conditions and was referred to the "mayor". I wonder if it was the Debbie you listed. If I remember right she was an attractive blond and had spent most of her summers there.

Nate, or anyone have any new info on CQ3 plans? It will be here before you know it.

well its time to check in to see who all is going on this here little trek around the elks range in a couple weeks. Plans still stand for meeting in Glenwood Springs Saturday morning at 9am, heading up through Marble, over Schofield, into CB and then around to Brush Creek. Camp for the night and then the next morning we get up and head up/over/down Peal Pass, into Aspen, and all meet at Hickory house for lunch.

What say you?

P.S. I have never camped on Brush Creek so I need a little help with that particualr aspect.

I hope to make it again (my 3rd CQ) but I am buying a house and closing/moving could get in the way. So maybe for now.

Thoughts/opinions on Pearl Pass being driveable for Cruiser QIII? The Maroon Bells had snow on them, the weather service forcasted several inches of snow above 12k ft in specific areas and several of my ski buddies who constantly track snow/weather info are counting the days until they can get into Montezuma Basin to cut first tracks.

Alan/Ryan - are you guys going to be able to make it? I believe I have 4-5 rigs from the Roaring Fork Valley that are going to make the run.

the big debate rite now is the passability of Pearl Pass if it sees another snow. We've seen a decent amount of rain in the Roaring Fork and Aspen Valleys lately...that has translated to snow above 12 to 13k. I fear that another good rain will equate to snow on the first 1/4 mile of trail off of the summit on the Aspen side as it sits in a due north aspect, it would probably stick. I don't think it would be impassable becuase of depth, but could be a slick mo-fo.....I might also just be paranoid.

Erin and I are still in. Not worried about conditions at all. probably going to make it more fun.

I can borrow some chains from a guy at work in case we need them.

Saturday September 29th at 9am at Dos Gringos in Carbondale. We'll grab some b-fast and then head up the Crystal Valley. Straight shot to Crystal and then schofield, over and into CB...grab a late lunch and head up Brush Creek Road. camp.

Sunday September 30th - get up get some b-fast, break down camp, get on the trail. Over Pearl Pass, down into Aspen late lunch as the hickory house.

Sounds perfect!
