(CQ3) - Cruiser Q-III.

The first year we did a long day trip on the Flat Tops North of Glenwood Springs with a big show & tell BBQ in Glenwood afterwards. Last year we took a similiar trail and made it an overnighter. This year I'm thinking we mix it up and get into the really high country. (i.e. Elk Ranges Range south of Aspen).

Mark your calendars for Saturday September 29th & Sunday September 30th. This will be a family friendly overnighter again. The final route is still in the mix as I'm still waiting on answers to a couple route questions. check back often as I'll be updating this thread with more info!!!

The first two years were a lot of fun. This year should be stellar!!!

The not-so-fun disclaimer stuff: please remember - this event is NOT affiliated with any club, there are no prizes, no money/gifts/etc...given out or exchanged. This is/was just an idea amongst a couple Cruiser owners after a couple beers thinking this would be cool to do. Also keep in mind, some people will be bringing their families. If you are bringing your kids or dog(s) you're expected to keep them in control at all times.

my personal thoughts on the route would be something like: Saturday: Glenwood -> Marble -> Crystal (via lead King or direct route) -> meet up in Crystal -> Shoefield -> CB. Stay the night in CB. Sunday: CB -> Taylor or Pearl -> Aspen (big lunch at hickory house BBQ) -> Glenwood.....bbbuuuutttt I'm still waiting on a couple answers before we lock that route down.

All right I will most likely be able to make this this year as I won't be bow hunting. Work is the only thing that could get in the way. Wish I could have made it last year it looked like a good time.

In it. Now I just need to decide about bringing the camper.

Edit: Out of it. I just realized that it falls on the same date as another event that I am running that weekend in the San Juan's.

Can't wait!

Practice run anyone?

here we are:

Saturday September 29th: GWS (9am departure) -> Marble -> Crystal (stop for photos at mill) -> Schoefield -> CB -> Camp on Brush Creek Road.

Sunday September 30th: Brush Creek Road -> Pearl Pass -> Aspen for lunch at the Hickory house

Let me know if you are planning on going....so I can kinda get an idea of how many rigs we have. Also, we'll have to keep a sharp eye on weather as Late September and we're pushing access on Pearl Pass.

A co-worker of mine in our Gunnison office is the caretaker for the Crystal Mill...he also knows everyone in the town of Crystal (all 10 of ten hehe). They rent out those cabins during the summer months. I was trying to work it out to get a bunch of them for the CQIII run but they will be closed at that time. (bummer) none-the-less if anyone is interested in staying up there here is the contact info for reserving the cabins: Debbie Hiese, 951-317-6205 If I remember correctly they run $50-60 / night depending on the cabin. They have similar amenities to the 10th mountain huts.

p.s. if anyone is passing through Crystal the weekend of August 17-19th we'll be doing some restoration work on the Mill....stop by and say hi!!!

well its time to check in to see who all is going on this here little trek around the elks range in a couple weeks. Plans still stand for meeting in Glenwood Springs Saturday morning at 9am, heading up through Marble, over Schofield, into CB and then around to Brush Creek. Camp for the night and then the next morning we get up and head up/over/down Peal Pass, into Aspen, and all meet at Hickory house for lunch.

What say you?

P.S. I have never camped on Brush Creek so I need a little help with that particualr aspect.

I am free that weekend, but will be right in the middle of a big project at work. If everything is going smoothly I'll be there. If not, well things didn't go so well.

Where are we meeting up in Glenwood?

Count me out I got a bow tag somehow this year and work is getting out of control. I have hardly wheeled at all this year. Maybe next time.

I believe we have 4-5 rigs from the Roaring Fork Valley that are going to make the run. Anyone else?

The big debate rite now is the passability of Pearl Pass if it sees another snow. We've seen a decent amount of rain in the Roaring Fork and Aspen Valleys lately...that has translated to snow above 12 to 13k. I fear that another good rain will equate to snow on the first 1/4 mile of trail off of the summit on the Aspen side as it sits in a due north aspect, it would probably stick. I don't think it would be impassable becuase of depth, but could be a slick mo-fo.....I might also just be paranoid.

Let me know. Send me a PM with an email address if you are going to make it.

If you are planning on it we're going to meet at 9am at Dos Gringos Burritos in Carbondale on Saturday the 29th.
