looking to buy my first cruiser. but the surface rust has me a bit worried. Is it okay or should I just leave it/walk away?

I'd hate to wrench on that thing

Not terribly horrible. Price would determine bust or not, imo.

Not awful. It's buyable at the right price

middle of the road

should come with a middle of the road price

She's had some exhaust work, and kind of looks like some more grease on the front passenger side diff cross member. I'd check CV on that side.

Perhaps a bit high. What about AHC and other issues going on? Any?

$6500/7k tops if everything else works. $9k is too much

Hmmmm. I personally don't like low mileage LC/LXs due to sitting around too much and usually too expensive. But that price may not be out of line if you don't mind the unterrible rust.

$9k seems to high to me but depends on a few variables.
Rust isn't bad, gonna suck to wrench on anything that is under the truck, especially those torsion bar bolts, and the exhaust will eventually need to be replaced as well as the gas tank cover. But not an immediate replacement or concern for either.
Depending on where you are, your skills and whatnot, may be worthwhile to hit with a wire wheel and then spray with rust inhibitor

Price is really going to be dependent on mileage and service history and records. It has obviously been driven quite a bit in nasty roads, so assuming mileage is like close to 200k or north. So unless the body and interior are absolutely pristine with immaculate service history, then not more than a $6k truck to me.

9k isn't too far off. Mileage is on the low side, so he can sell it to someone who doesn't care about the undercarriage and is just going to daily it until it dies.

The exhaust work looks good actually, no weird flow restrictions, nice welds. Probably just a rust through on the cat back area.

If you want to have an LC as an enthusiasts vehicle (meaning it is more to you than just a commuter) I'd look into something from a less salty area.
