Im pretty happy to get this far in one day. I think Im gonna go out and weld up them seams before bedtime.

Man I got alot more done. Seams welded up and rear doors welded in also.

Off to bed.

A couple pics from last night fitting up the doors.

I got the doors for free cuz a previous owner decided to weld them together. Well it look like someone shot little glue BBs at it. It had millions of little BBs to grind off before I could get welding.

Its got tube welded on it now. Framerails are done. Now for some cage and bed progress.

Not sure how tall you are, but I really would have added a foot or so more to the cab. Just more leg room, room for the cage, speaker box, gear, etc.

cheers-
Dustin

I thought the same thing at first since I'm 6'5 but I noticed he runs a single cab mini and I doubt he didn't make sure he fit first.

Looks good man, seeing a cut down 40 body makes me want to make an extended cab for my crawler.

Im not very tall only about 5 10 so Im not to worried. I have has seats in it and it has tons of room compared to a mini.

Plus I cut and welded it where it was the best/easiest fit. I went as far back as I could without getting into alot of fitment work. I have seen a few stretched extracab ones and I personaly dont like the look either, but thats just me.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I need to load up some pics later and update things.

Heres a few pics.

Got the rear doors all welded up and finish ground.

Removed the seats and hokey mounts/risers.

Cut the ugly frame off too.

Then stated with a couple DOM framerails.

I got the rocker bars mocked up then welded on. They are 2x4 .120 wall.

Then got a couple corners cut out of some 1/4 inch plate to wrap the corners around and to attach the B pillar of the cage. I used some flatbar to give a nice lip to weld to.

Then I torched out a couple top lips to cap the tub and give me a sturdy lip to bolt the removable top to.

Got it all tacked up. Then burned it in and added a gusset to keep the door jamb solid.

Then I used a combination of flatbar and angle iron to frame out the back of the cab and prepare for some thick corners.

Put some 12 gauge sheet on the corners for protection while Im cruising the ghetto. This way when the doors, windshield and top are off there not much left to damage.
Tacked it on the edge of the door opening lip and started bending it around with lots of force. Got it far enough to start tacking and using large C/clamps for the remainder of the wrap. Then welded the lip all the way around. It came out nice and smooth and is extremely strong. The sheet extends past the top lip about a half inch so it is under the top keeping water out.

Then I started on the cage with the B pillar first. Had the top on and off so many times to make sure it all fits inside well and is easy to remove by two people.

The main structures of the cage are 1.5 inch DOM and the bracing is 1 inch DOM.

I welded the top lip of the tub in as many places as I could to make it all one strong unit. The door jambs are super rigid and the doors shut better than ever.

Then started to add some bracing to make it all all little stronger while trying to keep some weight down a little. Took the top off alot more again.
