I have been shopping for a 100 and researching a build. I was telling "The Boss" about it and how excited I was- you know, 2.5" lift with reservoir shocks, front and rear bumpers, new wheels with 33" tires, sliders etc. She listened patiently to my 10 minute long spiel. When I was finished, her only response was "Just make sure you can get it into the garage or you're going to freeze your ass off every morning before you go skiing."
So my question for all of you experts out there is- How far from the ground is the highest point on your built 100? I think I will be OK with the lift and tires, but I'm not so sure about the roof rack, awning and tent (it could stay outside all summer with the tent). I have 82" from the concrete to the beam over the garage door. Any help would be appreciated.

Im not sure about exact height but i do know that a lifted 100 with a roof top tent and 33s will not fit into standard covered parking at the mall.

Individual heights are going to be all over the place. With only 82" clear (and this assumes it is the lowest spot in the garage, not just the opening) you will not be able to squeeze a rig with a 2.5" lift, roof rack, tent, etc.

If you keep to a 33" tire, 2.5" lift, no factory rack, aftermarket rack... nothing above the sheet metal, you might be able to squeeze in but it will be tight.

Seat heaters will help with the frozen butt....

sounds like you could do 2.5" lift, 33s, a flat gamiviti rack and just leave the tent off and in the garage against the wall or something. Not sure how hard they are to install. But parking inside and not having 6" of wind resistance and an extra 150lbs up there might be worth the hassle of re-installing it for trips.

Also, depending on which springs you choose, your 2.5" lift might end up being less than that after bumpers and armor.

82" is plenty of room, but you don't really need 2.5" of lift to fit 33" tires.

I think my rig is about 78" with a flat Baja Rack Utility roof rack.

i am over 82 with my highlift mounted on my stock rack. I would be fine without it. I pull up slowly to the yellow pvc bar.

My unbreakable rule on lift height is 7ft (84 inches). This gets me into 95% of city parking garages in Atlanta. I achieved this running 35's, 3" of lift in the back (863s) and a Front Runner Slimline 2.2m roof rack with the short towers. I did all of my garage testing sans rear seats and nothing but a WeatherTech mat in the back. Sometimes my 60" Hi-Lift kisses those tubular height warning things found at the entrances but the jack extends about 1/2 inch above the tallest part of my vehicle.

Rig looks great!

Note to all about public parking garage heights....

The way the building codes are written for public parking garages, the lowest point (what is posted on the sign) is not always at the sign, It might be a beam, pipe, ducting, etc. at some point inside the garage. The signs that are posted (tubular, board, etc) is not always at that height. It may be higher or lower. You should not use that warning sign as your judge. Also, the height is typically determined by some junior draftsman that has been sent to survey the garage when the building has decided or the local jurisdiction has decided to require new current ADA package for building permits. Now, what does that mean... It means, the height might not be accurate. The person whom measured the lowest point in that garage could have missed the actual lowest point (human error). Or since the last measurements were conducted some contractor could have come through and installed new piping, conduit, duct work, etc. that is now the lowest point in the garage.

I have seen it all happen before. So use caution if it is going to be close. Like Pfran, I wont go in anything below 7'-0".... And even then I am too close some times.

^^^^^ all good points.

I got a call from the Risk Manager at work the other day to tell me the FD was at one of our garages and was going to cut a hightop van loose from a low hanging beam using the jaws of life which would obviously damage the van even more and likely the beam. I told him to tell the FD to go home and let the air out of all tires on the van and back it out.

Airing down in a parking garage worked like a charm.

Ha. Haven't they heard the NPR CarTalk Puzzler about the 18 wheeler and the bridge?

OK- Forget the RTT and anything other than the stock rack. The "Boss" says she won't sleep on the roof! With just the two of us we'll have plenty of room without the need for an after market rack. Sounds like it should fit under the 82" beam.
Thanks for all your advice.

It's like lifting a 110 pound box over your head and onto your roof. With one person I would imagine its pretty tough.

The bonus of tall garage doors is that you can mount the RTT on a pulley system in your garage above where you park, drive in, lower RTT on to roof rack, secure it, and enjoy.

I am at 81.5" with my 2006 at the highest point on the factory rack. This is with the Slee 2.5" heavy lift and 275/70/18 Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx tires ...

What do your tires measure, and what are your front and rear hub to fender measurements? I'm running about an inch less lift (21" front, 22.25" rear) with presumably the same size tires (275/70-18 BFG AT KO's measured at 33.25"), yet you're truck's height is 4" higher than mine (77.5").
