As previously reported in the main CC '06 thread, we've encountered a problem with the food services for our event. The Newton Lions Club has informed me that they are no longer able to provide food services for our event. They were the ideal candidate for this service because they have the experience, staff, and logistics (including dealing with the Fraser Health Authority for food permits) all worked out.

My question is this: Considering there is a cornerstore/gas station and a McDonald's across the street from our venue, how important is it for us to have substantial meal-type food items (such as hot dogs and hamburgers) at our event?

Would we be better off setting up a concession stand that simply offers cold soft drinks and bottled water as well as pre-packaged snack items for our guests? This consession stand can easily be run by a couple of Club members, and since there is no food preparation or cooking involved, we won't have to deal with getting a food permit (I think...I'll check into it some more). Meanwhile, it's also easy enough to go to a place like Costco and pick up the beverages and snack items for a reasonable price.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make this week's Club meeting. I have herniated disks in my lower back that has been giving me a lot of trouble, and I need to minimize aggravation to it because I have recently returned to work. Please post up suggestions here, or email or call me, as I check the MUD board often. Thanks.

Food Issues

Hi, if nothing has already been organized for food. Jim and I would be willing to take a trip into Costco and pickup a few flats of pop, maybe chips and whatever else you guys would like to have. And we could sell it at the same table as the t-shirts to make it easy. What do you think?

Whatever you guys end up doing, you guys must make an application to Fraser Health Authority to have a food license to sell food at the event. They want to make sure that conditions are sanitary and that at least one person in the group selling the food has their Foodsafe certificate. Please also note that the Surrey School Board requires a copy of the food license before they will release the contract to rent the facility to the group. Good luck!

I agree with Lynsey. If you guys dont have your food safe we can use Maries name on the aplication.

Is Marie gona be there?

We tried several service clubs and were unable to get anyone to do the food service. Talk to Steve T, but I plan to go ahead with the school board and tell them we are not serving food. I've already paid for the parking lot rental, but they have been waiting for word about food, and I think time is running out and we should tell them one way or the other.

Sorry to butt in guys but how about trying this. Call a local snack truck company. You may find someone that wants to work a weekend with his truck for extra cash. Maybe offer a guarrenteed minimum.

I'd rather walk across the street.Do you know how expensive those coffee trucks are!

I could ask my EX. to get one of her Ice Cream trucks to swing by or hang out for awhile. She owns Mr Cool Ice Cream.
