Alright a friend of mine is going to sign up and he has a brand new FJ all stock.

He does not want any damage and would prefer not a scratch.

What trails do you recommend ?

He's a newbie with very limited experience......

The better-half & I are going. The truck is lifted though. Your friend should be fine on the 3 -3+ trails. Lots to see for a first timer with out being too hard core.

Anyone completed Hells Revenge in a stock FJ ?

First time to Moab and here is what I have signed up for... But I have done a few upgrades and have been wheeling for years...

Thursday1: Gold Bar Rim 3+
Thursday2: Kane Creek Canyon 4
Thursday3: Poison Spider Mesa 4
Friday1: Kane Creek Canyon 4
Friday2: Hells Revenge 4
Friday3: Fins & Things 3+
Saturday1: Hells Revenge 4
Saturday2: Poison Spider Mesa 4
Saturday3: Cliff Hanger 4

I think if you don't want any damage and are new to offroading I would stay with the 3's and 3+'s. I would also recommend rock sliders as cheap insurance.

looking forward to seeing everone down there.:bounce:

I spent a lot of time down there and have travled all of the listed trails and more, I would stay away from the 4's for sure to avoid damage. A 3 and a 3+ should be ok, but I won't guarantee anything on a 3+.

By the way, unless something has changed you will end up with serious rocky mountain pin stripes on Kane Creek Canyon.

Fins and Things is fun, I like SteelBender(one nonbypass obsticle that is difficult and could cause rocker damage), Top of the World has one of the most amazing views and is a fun trail.

Anyway, just thought I would put in my 2 cents.

Scott

I will be there. Here is my trail selection:

Thursday1: Elephant Hill
Thursday2: Fins & Things
Thursday3: Gold Bar Rim
Friday1: Poison Spider Mesa
Friday2: Kane Creek Canyon
Friday3: Hells Revenge
Saturday1: Porcupine Rim
Saturday2: Gold Bar Rim
Saturday3: Elephant Hill

Can't wait to meet some other FJ Cruiser owners!!!

I was at Moab EJS last year with my FJ stock and then Cruise Moab with a 3" lift. The difference after running SteelBender stock and then trails with a lift is less belly damage. As you know the stock skids are week. Also plan on crushing the stock exhaust end when touching down off of rock ledges. If he has the TRD exhaust it will less likely get hit. After adding a lift I then protected almost everything underneath. Engine and diff skid, sliders, Heavy duty Lower Control Arms, and plated the LCA frame mounting points. The last 2 get hit alot and bend easy.

Just remember to pick the correct line.:)

I will be there.

I have signed up and will be going mostly 3+ trails. As you stated you do not want any damage, neither do I. It is going to be great fun and a good learning experience. See you there. Yellow FJ with 3 inch lift and 285/70/17 BFG AT TKO tires. :) :) :) Michael

I'm signed up. Now to worry over little tweaks and got to do the A-Trac Hack!

Well it looks like he is signed up for

Thursday : Fins & Things
Friday : Gold Bar Rim
Saturday : Kane Creek Canyon

Thanks for the input.

kane creek will cause paint scratched from the trees, Im on that run and love the trail but it is brushy

Gold bar rim will also do some minor scratching on a couple of obsticals. Mostly on the front and rear bumpers. Good spoting and stacking rocks will help some, but not prevent all. As well Kane creek will scratch the paint some, no avoiding that on that trail. Also some spots on the trail will have bypasses on the harder obsticals, but at the end there are spots sliders will be needed. Again stacking rocks will be needed not to dent the rocker panels. If he slips off the rocks damage will occur.
Fins and things is the safest one of all the trails he has signed up for.
So your friend may need to think about this before he goes on some of these trail he has selected. Possiabilty of damage can occur even when you take all the precautions you can. Will he be ok with the damage if it occurs? Some thing he will have to ask him self.
Any how not to be a downer. The trails can be done with out damage, if you have spent time in the seat and learn what your truck can do. Ask for help, stack rocks if needed. Ask for spotting. Any how good luck. later robbie

Thursday May 3rd: Gold Bar Rim
Friday May 4th: Poison Spider Mesa
Saturday May 5th: Elephant Hill

Woohoo! I can't wait!

Just got back from Moab- here's a take on stockies...

Hello folks,
Just came back from 3 days of trail running just prior to Easter Jeep Safari (I left Sat. 31st- nick of time). Anyway, Hell's Revenge: I'd expect a trail-clearanced back bumper and tailpipe- right away. Sometimes the "alternate" routes are still tough departure angles- though I needed none). My All-Pro Offroad bumper and hitch were used constantly on descents. On Gold Bar Rim, and parts of Poison Spider- The front bumper won't last a second- again, the All-Pro bumper has tons of increased approach angle- but the factory recovery hoops should be cut off prior to any real running- they hang up on anything. Without side rails- expect to use the underbody and rear lower links as transition pieces before the rear tires gain traction on climbs/descents over rocks. Long story long, there is no doubt I would have extensive recovery time, body and driveline damage, and PO'd friends had it not been for the practical pieces I ordered from All-Pro. In my photo album I have a good picture of my Fj just exiting the ascent of a waterfall- driving past a stock Fj that stopped at the head of the trail! If you plan a stock Fj run- please have excellent spotters, plenty of time, and don't be upset at the trail damage. you can still run alot of trails- just nothing that makes 'yer hair stand on end...

FJ vs TJ

I also just got back from EJS with my TJ. (I know) Any how, There were a few FJs out on the trail, very good to see them, as I am going to Cruise Moab first of May. My wife is going to let me take the FJ and I must say. I do not think you can get by without any damage. The trails that you have signed up for, you will suffer some damage. I have "her" FJ lifted and am running 285s I can say that it is a much larger vehicle than my TJ. They are to very different vehicles. I love them both, and if I tear up anything on the FJ my wife will kill me. Both of the vehicles are daily drivers and are a compromise of on and offroad attributes. The TJ is highly modified running 37 inch tires with both ends locked. I am very much looking forward to doing some trails with the FJ. I have done some light wheeling around Grand Junction with it and am very happy with it. I am looking forward to seeing what the rig can do. The TJ came back in one piece so I hope the FJ will to. Has anybody else had the chance to wheel in both vehicles and what are your opinions? KEEP IT NICE, PLEASE.
